I have some network knowledge but new in wireless networking. I just acquired dell axim and are waiting for the delivery. I like to add wifi to my axim to use it for browsing and other network stuff. I already have ethernet network inside my house with internet access for my pcs, laptops. Here is my understanding on how to add axim to my existing network: I need wifi cf card and wifi wap.
My question is on wap. I saw there are at least two options

My questions are:
1. what are differences between them? will option 2 work for me since I already have router/gateway for my existing network. option 2 is about $50 cheaper.
2. What's your recommendation on brand/model for this wap/router? Are these any good on-going deal for one of them? I am thinking about get the linksys wcf-12 from compusa as my wifi cf for axim.

The one from Best Buy is a Router/WAP, since you already have a router, it is not neccessary that you have this.

The other one is a WAP only, this is what you need. I don't know anything about this brand so I will not comment on it.

I myself have a Netgear wireless router/WAP and I am very happy with it. I would suggest that you buy the same brand WAP as your router (makes it easier for support but it is not neccessary).

I would also suggest www.pricegrabber.com for your purchase, might be cheaper than COMPUSA $$$.

Tired of waiting for my axim to arrive. Went out bought linksys wcf12 and microsoft wireless base station MN-500.
Set MN-500 to run in WAP only/Bridge mode. And find a way to use wcf12 on my laptop running w2k. Yahoo, Banm, it is working. I am type this message with my laptop running wirelessly.

In case somebody like to use their linksys wcf12 in regular windows machine. Here is a goog pointer on where to get the driver and how to set it up.
