What bluetooth devices do you really use? I have a Axim x51v which has BT (bluetooth) and all the talk of BT in the x51v forum has got me lusting after it. But what would I really use? What BT do you use and what for?
1. BT GPS. Yes yes yes. I'm going to buy a Holux GR 236 GPS and get Tomtom. I can't wait! Do solar power units really help any? I wouldn't think their small solar cells help that much?
2. BT USB Dongle. Yes. I can see why this would be great. It would allow my laptop to hookup to BT GPS and my Axim x51v. Cool!
3. BT Keyboard for a PDA? We really don't type that much on a PDA. Unless your trying to use Word or something I'm not sure why you would want this? If your really using Word on a PDA my question to you is why don't you use a laptop with a much better version of word? I just don't get all this PDA typing? Hmmm...
4. BT Mouse? We have touch screens. Why bother with battery powered devices for something we can use the stylus for? Hmmm...
5. BT Headphones? I don't listen to a lot of music, but I do have mp3 lectures I might like to hear on the PDA. But I'm not sure BT Headphones are such a great idea. Besides the fact I would have to use a BT earphone dongle you also have to worry about batteries all the time. I use earbuds now and leave the PDA in my top pocket. The wires really don't get in the way. BT sucks down the power also. I think BT headphones sound cool, but might be much more trouble than they're worth. Unsure?
6. What else is there? Inquiring minds need to know!
BT phone,
My phone has a 2mp camera so i take snapshots with that and send to the 2GB flashcard in my axim for viewing

BT Device that I really use is only my Cellphone for DUN,SMS and Dialer other than that is not necessary for me for the time being.
Some BT option that worked with x51v have been mentioned and you're not in favor of using it. You need to know what BT that you need within your preferences so you can filter the option, according to your statement above I supposed you only need a BT-GPS and a USB Dongle for your laptop (I recommend BT-PCMCIA so it doesn't stick out from your notebook).
Hope this helps.

I use my BT to connect to my PC, GPS, phone and headphones. Keep in mind that X50s running WM5 and all X51s do not work with BT headsets (unless it comes with a dongle) because of a crippled BT stack.
Does anybody use Buzzone or something like it? It establishes a BT Intranet, would be cool for here at the office where the Corporate IT Nazis have bannished the PDA. But the site says it does not support WM5 yet.......
I am warming up to the Idea of BT Handsfree to use with my Laptop for Yahoo voice. But of coarse IMs with Voice are not supported on WM5......
I have used other wireless headphones before and I am not impressed. To heavy, short range, poor amps and sound quality, all those batteries....
BT earpiece for Cell, Connect X50V to GPS and to Laptop...I never upgraded the OS so I still can do all the things the X50V is meant to do. Also looking at a BT printer...trying to get rid of wires and cables.....
wmrawls:
Bluetooth is too short range for printers, at least for me. You would always have to be within 30 feet. I like wifi for printers and networking. I keep seeing all these wifi-printer-kits on ebay for around $20. They are made to work with printers that use USB currently. You might give it a gander...
Well I am refering to a blue tooth set up on the laptop and the desk PC. And 30 feet is perfectly fine in my house. And yeah I can set up the wireless network to acess the printers but the main PC will still ahev the cable running from it to the printer. Under my desk where I have the PC is one USB cable and one power cord for: Computer, CRT,Printer, Scanner, Webcam, Speakers, router, microphone, network cable for the extended network running to the work shop, the network phone line router to that network, the charging cables for teh two different digital cameras, charging station for 2 cell phones, two Axims, two external hard drives, one external multi slot card reader..........and a couple of other things I have plugged in and I am scared to unplug becasue I forget where they go to lol....any way the point if these cables collect dust bunnies and are a PAIN IN THE BUTT....so if i can use BT or wireless thats the way I am moving.
I use BT for a keyboard for my Axim. I don't type that much, but even entering tasks and editing contact info, I can do it more quickly on my Axim with a keyboard as opposed to punching the letter with the stylus. Just a matter of finding what works for me.

4. BT Mouse? We have touch screens. Why bother with battery powered devices for something we can use the stylus for? Hmmm...
:)
I originally felt the same way about the mouse untill I got one packaged with my keyboard. I have since seen the light! I love it!!!!
I mostly use the mouse when my Axim is in the craddle and I am either installing software or looking up something. I have my Bluetooth on all the time on my Axim and my Mouse swithed on as well. One touch on my mouse button and it is instantly recognised and ready to use within one second. The mouse has a power save feature which saves my battery (same original AAA for three months) and having Bluetooth on my Axim does not drain it's battery too badly.
Another use for the mouse will be (when I get my VGA out and S video cables) is to lay on my couch and operate my Axim connected to the tv. Ultimate couch potato!
BT for Verizon Broadband via cell phone. BT GPS for navigation with Dell navigation and on the ocean with OziExplorer, and BT keyboard on the way for typing and answering Email faster than with stylus.
