Ok, after a hard reset, I cannot get my axim to activesync wirelessly. I can get online and surf the web, etc; but no sync. Everything worked fine before. I know I am overlooking something simple. Please help.
Have you sync'd it in the cradle since the reset. It needs to establish your Axim as a sync partner first and then it will sync wirelessly. Also can you ping your PC by name when you are wireless?
Is it showing up as guest on the pc and says connecting on the axim? if so try enable/disable qos packet scheduler on your pc. If you have 2 network connections on your pc (ie wifi and wired), disable/disconnect one. Thats what i did to get mine to work
On your PC's ActiveSync, do you have the box in File, Connection Settings..., "Allow network (Ethernet) and Remote..." checked?

I use IP Manager to associate the PC's name with its IP but I suggest you try Pocket Hosts (which is freeware). Read about it here or download it from Handango. This may solve your problem.
First establish an ActiveSync partnership between your Pocket PC and your PC by using a USB, Serial, or Infra Red link. Wireless ActiveSyncing is not possible without performing this step first.
Step 2
You must enable network connections in ActiveSync on your PC. In the "File" menu of ActiveSync select "Connection Settings...". Then click on the check box next to "Allow network [Ethernet] and Remote Access Service [RAS] server connection with this desktop computer." Finally, click "OK".
Step 3
Next you'll need to enable network ActiveSyncing on your Pocket PC. Start up the ActiveSync application on it. In the "Tools" menu, select "Options...". Then click on the check box next to "Include PC when synchronizing remotely and connect to:". Finally, enter the name of the PC you'll be syncing with in the text box below this line.
Step 4
Set all connection setting to Work except the wireless network card.
Let us know if it still doesn't work.....Good luck :). Btw Don't use the PocketHosts unless you have STATIC IP. (If it is dynamic and you use that, you have to change it every once in a while as the ip changes).
One point about the Pocket Hosts, I find with IP Manager that my home network IPs are pretty stable but it did take me a couple of hours to figure out that a new IP number was the problem I was having at work. It's happened twice since then and I figured out the reason pretty quickly on those occasions. On the otherhand, having my computer names associated with their IPs has kept ActiveSync working flawlessly all the rest of the time.
After you install it, start it from programs. Fill in the host name (this should be the same name you have in step 3 above and enter the IP number for that computer. If you don't know how to find this number, post back with the OS you are using. Once you've done that, as long as it's checked, ActiveSync should use the IP address for linking to the PC.
i can start an app like AIM for ppc and it will run for awhile then all of the sudden for no obvious reason my AX will just lose the connection. I am no longer able to sync access the internet or use AIM. i'll let it sit there awhile then just as strangly as it lost connection it will regain it's connection. i'll be able to sync, access the internet, and use AIM again. I cannot figure out for the life of me what i have set wrong for this to happen. I just installed the "Active Hosts" app so i guess i'll see how that works. Any additional thoughts welcome.

Bingo, pockethosts did the trick. I find it funny that I needed to do this. My axim worked fine for 4 months without it. Anyone care to further troubleshoot the problem?
Hmmmm i had problems too before but after following those instructions it works well. Btw i got the instructions off the net and added step 4 (this step resolve my problem)
Do you run any firewall? if so try to turn that off when u are testing.
Ikehiker, I used the pockethosts too before, it's pretty niffty program :). But too bad, i have dynamic ip addy that changes very often....
even with "Pocket Hosts" installed and running i am still intermittently losing my activesyn/network connection. Any ideas anyone i did the above steps all over again just to make sure i had that stuff right?
