How Simple Ad-Hoc using IBM Access Connections?

I'm trying to create a simple Wi Fi network between my Thankpad and Axim X51v. I can't seem to get them to maintain contact for more than 3 seconds.

Here are my settings in IBM Access Connections on the Thinkpad:

Adaptor Name: Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Adaptor Type: Wireless netowkr
....
TCP/IP
DHCP Enabled? No
Address 192.168.0.2
Submet mas: 255.255.0.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
Append parent suffix of the primary DNS suffix? No
Register connection's address in DNS? No
Enable LMHOSTS lookup? Yes
BIOS sectting: Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP

Wirelss Settings
Network name: blahblah
Connection Type: Peer-to-Peer (ad-hoc)
Peer to Peer channel: 1
Wireless mode: Auto
Security encryption: None
...

Diable file and printer sharing: Yes
Disable Windows Firewal: No
Disable Internet connection sharing: No

The laptop will suddenly find the Axim, then after 30 secs lose it.

Help?

Problems maintaining a connection are usually due to either, 1) the powersave feature being active or the Axim (may also be a feature on the PC's WiFi. If so, disable it there, as well). 2) an interferring signal - try changing the channel.

Tried using Odessy and wasn't able to connect at all. Tried to find a place to change the channel with no luck of finding a place to do so in IBM Access Connections. Also, half the time I can't find the place on the Axim that I tell it whether to connect to all networks, just the Work ones or just the Home ones.

I was able to briefly get the VPC and the Axim to ping one another, then lost the connection and can't get it back.

Thanks for the advice above. Not sure why everything started working but I think that turning off the power saving was one of the points. Below are the points I think had an effect:

1) Turned off power saving on the laptop and X51v wireless setup.
2) Turned off IEEE 802.1x authentication on both laptop and X51v.
3) Oddly the connection worked though for part of the time the subnets were different. The laptop and the VPC both used 255.255.0.0 while the X51v was using 255.255.255.0
4) The VPC was initially set up to use the Intel Mobile adaptor rather than the Wireless adaptor. Likely a key problem once the laptop was set up.

In any event thanks for the help and this great site!

Now I'm totally going crazy. Why is it that sometimes Opening the WLAN util and clicking on Setting gives you the screen to select whether to connect to ad-hoc or infrastructure networks and other times it takes you directly into "Configure Network Adaptors" ?

It goes into "Configure Network Adaptors" when wireless is turned off. There have also been some reports that having Odyssey active (and maybe some other third part wireless applications) when you start WiFi will cause this.
