Pocket PC Internet Connection Via Satellite Phone?

Does anyone connect their Axim to the internet via a Satellite Phone? I am interested in how it performs and what hardware and service providers exist.

Here is a link to one company that states thier phone can link with a PDA.

It would be better if it could connect via bluetooth though.

Anyother thoughts on the topic would be appreciated

I can tell by the site that theyre using outdated technology. Bluetooth would be better. Wouldnt u need to subscribe to dial up and sattilite phone to get this.
Why not just get a cell phone that has bt and allows u to access the net with it and on the ppc.

Getting a cell phone that has bt and allows u to access the net with it and on the ppc is my ideal way to connect when I am in an area that has network coverage.

However, I have a friend that is going to be in Africa doing volunteer work for two years. This got me thinking about possibilities of having access to the internet while in remote locations (ones without cell network coverage). I was trying to put together a list of essential equipment. A satellite internet connection is the only way I can figure to connect a pcc to the internet in remote areas.

I agree that a BT connection would be much nicer than any sort of cable.

Is that site that outdated? Or is it simply that there is little interest in Satellite phones?

Oh, where there is no towers, youd have to rely on satillite. The sits diagram and pcs looked outdated. Id say around 5 years old. The pda looked old and they are still using wired. I would contact the sat company because they may have other methods of connecting or more modern.

Yes! Ipaqs that are more up to date.

They have a cf card adapter that you would have to buy, since the axim and ipaq have different serial connectors at the bottom. Thats what worried me on the other site, because prettty much every pda type has a different serial port at the bottom. But CF is more universal.

The drivers should be more up to date. For wm2003.
NOTE: If u have the x51 these drivers may not work. Just ask about wm2005 compatibility when you buy.

Thanks, that is an interesting site. Seems like there is no way to test the satellite reciever anywhere in the Americas until late in 2006 and the prices make it way out of the question.
