As I walk through the valley of darkness

I have been looking for a fix for my wireless issue...Dell has no answer for me.

A friend of mine has the Axim 51v as I do, if we sit side by side and match screen for screen and setting for setting they are identical. Yet he can hit the net and I cant........hardly. I can load a web site one out 15 tries while he is surfing away.

I have an antenna with a halo and 2 arrows at the top and full green bars at the bottom. I have an IP address etc etc. His hits the net and mine says "cannot connect"

We have also done the ping test and mine says "timed out" or 1700+ms while his is hitting at 9ms

1. odessy disabled
2. powersave disabled
3. mac is present
4. ip is present
5. gateway and primary DNS is present
6. chose "work"
7. showing packets transmitting and recieving
8. proxy disabled

What am I overlooking???

Thanx all

Nothing as far as I am concerned. Here is what I suggest. Make a good backup of your Axim as well as your friend. Do a hard reset on both unit. Do not install any software just configure the WiFi connection on both Axim. Are you still having problem? If yes, call Dell and report what you have done. You probably have a defect unit.

Thank you. I agree there might be a defect at large. We had plans to do just what you suggested. I was hoping for the "yeah you forgot to......"

The one thing I see missing is whether you have both dropdowns - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks - set to the same (I usually recommend "My Work Network" which would match your step 6 but the second dropdown may not be set that way).

Usually, the 'cannot connect error' can be fixed by making sure both dropdown settings in the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks are set to "My Work Network." If you then tap the Edit... button under either list and the Proxy Settings (tab), the top box (This network connects to the Internet) should be checked but leave everything else on this page blank (this is the proxy issue benots4 mentioned). After tapping OK, make sure both dropdown lists are still set to My Work Network and OK your way back to the Today page and then soft reset.

THANK YOU!!! Nowhere in the manual does it say this!!! It works great now.
:approve: :approve: :)

I cant say enough...........

May I ask you this. If you are connected to a network but say it is weak where is the screen to disconnect and reconnect to a stronger one? Off to the book I go
