How do I play media files on the network?

I can map a network drive but the only thing I can do is copy and paste files. It doesn't let me open them over the network.

I remember somebody suggested a fee utility that would let you do that. I can't remember what it was though.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

Try NetRunner. IT allows you to map a drive and then you can stream from your desktop PC's harddrive. If you want to stream from the internet use GSPlayer. It does a nice job of streaming audio from net sites. I have had fair luck using the Windows Media Player that comes on your PPC for streaming video. Most of these files can be found right here on the Axim Site's download section.

Good luck.

I've just set up mine with PocketLan (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2825 ) to handle mapping the network connection, and am using PocketMusic to play my files.

I had originally intended to just use media player, but found that when ever I started it it took an age to scan my mediaserver for all the files (approx 6000 tracks on the server).

I bought PocketMusic because it builds up just the directory list and only looks for the track listings on the directories I select.

If you're media files are only MP3, then I imagine the freeware version would work, otherwise it's $20 for the feature pack that adds WMA support.
