It shouldn't affect because FM frequency and Wi-Fi are located as you said in totally different part of the spectrum FM: 88-108 Mhz and Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz (2400 Mhz). But it's been demostrated that radio waves can be picked up by any wire or even the speakers in your radio and that might cause the interference, you can test this putting your cellphone (800 Mhz or 1900 Mhz) near a speaker or headphone, and you will hear interference, it's picked up by the speaker itself and not by the radio.

This static was definetely caused by the axim, b/c after i posted above, i turned off my axim, and the station came in a lot better. I think its just that it affects picking up the signal, b/c i wasnt recieving a very strong broadcast from this station. Its a little distant.
EDIT: Now that you mention wires, there are a lot of them on this stereo. It has wires for both speakers, wires for input that i leave hooked up (use it to connect my axim to the stereo), and the antenna is just a wire. So maybe there was just some interference. Its not like its the radio is the newest/best, and its not like my homemade rca audio to 3.5mm headphone adapter that i leave hooked up is fcc approved.
Its no big deal, i just wanted to know if this is a common prob.
