Wifi connection problems - please help!

I've bought a X3 with built in wifi, however I can't connect it. I've gone through the instrustions loads of times and looked at lots of help pages. I go Start/Settings/Connections/Wireless Ethernet I've added new settings (tired both The Internet and Work) and typed in carefully the network key on authentication page. But then won't connect. If I go to Dell WLAN Utility/Site Survey I can see my connection (I use a netgear wireless router) but it doesn't give it's name (have also tried highlighting clicking on profiles and setting up a profile with a blank for name but this also doesn't help. I've even tried a Hard Reset of the PDA, but that didn't help. Please somebody help!

1) Have you tried configuring your netgear to broadcast its SSID?
2) Set "Network to access:" to "All Available"?
3) Go to Network Adapters panel, set network card connects to "The Internet",.
4) In the same panel, select WLAN module, and specify "Use server-assigned IP address.", or use a static IP address depending on how your netgear is set up.
5) Maybe your netgear has MAC address filtering enabled (try turning it off)?
6) Are the encryption settings compatible (try turning it off)?
7) Is the netgear configured properly to connect to the internet?
8) Is the netgear configured to operate in mixed (802.11b/g) mode?

Now says connected, but if I try going on any pages on internet explorer says "The pages you are looking for cannot be found".

1) Try cycling power on the X3 (to reset the network adaptor)
2) You sure that the netgear is connected to the internet?
3) Maybe the X3 is too far away from the netgear. Are the activity lights on
the netgear blinking when you are trying to connect?
4) Maybe security settings aren't compatible.
5) Maybe server IP/static IP settings are incorrect
6) Try rescanning for the network
7) Maybe another router is operating nearby using the same channel?
8) Maybe a 2.4GHz cordless phone is operating nearby.

Still not working. Definately isn't a router problem as 4 computers including this one are working off it fine and there if 100% signal.

Seriously, try IkeHiker's WiFi guide before anything else.
Also, it still might be a router. Check your router's manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update with this router.
I know, WiFi is a standard, and everything should play very nicely together, but sometimes they do not, and the manufacturer will often patch the firmware to fix this.

Thanks everyone for all the help. After playing around for a few hour the situation has changed somewhat. Half the time it says it's connected to the internet with a network card but won't actually load any pages and half the time it's connected to the internet with a wireless card and I can used the internet! It seems fairly random which one happens each time I turn on the wifi. Is there anyway of turning the network card off?

Hi,
I have an x51v but my problems sound similar.

What finally made it work for me - and it is still working great - was typing in the specific IP address, gateway, DNS, etc.

My network is running DHCP (auto IP) but it seemed to not work properly with the Axim, and typing it in manually has done the trick. The Axim received an IP address but couldnt figure out my default gateway.
If you´re not sure of your network settings they are the same as for your desktop, except the IP of course which has to be unique.

Hope it helps
Simon

Ok, now working enough to use.

But wondered if anyone else has same situation. Each time I turn my PDA on when I first enable the wireless it says it's connected with a network card (but I can't actually use the internet) then if I disable and re-enable the wireless it says it's connected with a wireless card and the internet works! If find this odd (but then I'm new to the world of PDAs).
