Aximsitewifiicon WEP vs. WAP for Mobile 2005 on X51V

Hi people. This is my first post, as I usually just read all the good info and find what I need.

I'm having a problem with WiFi and my Dlink DIR635 routers WAP-PSK security. I turned off all security and could connect, then tried WEP64 and could connect. WAP-PSK won't connect though. I can see the network, enter the code, and then it says connecting and just goes back to available....never connects.

Any guesses of whats wrong? I'm sure I have the right key code.

How much better is WAP-PSK security than standard WEP64?

Thanks

BTW - I forgot to say that I read the sticky at the top of this forum and did a search and everything I found says that WAP should work with Windows Mobile 5.

Hmmmmmmmmm.....:rolling:

WPA - not WAP :)

Even WPA-PSK is significantly stronger than WEP, but at the end of the day it's really needed as a deterrent more than anything right? If you genuinely are transmitting super-secret stuff then you'd want to be using WPA and ensuring that you're using VPN too. If you just want to keep people from using your network and randomly sniffing what you're doing then WEP will do the trick. It's weak, but probably strong enough.

For WPA-PSK the passphrase has to match EXACTLY. Set it up with a passpphrase of axim or something very short and simple. Ensure that the case etc. is all correct.

You could also try to upgrade the f/w on your router if you haven't already.

Thanks for responding Howard.

Maybe WAP was the sound my hand made when I got disgusted and backhanded my router?? I do that all the time with SMPT or SMTP....whatever it is.

I'll try a real short passkey tonight and if that doesn't work I'll go back to WEP.

Yes, it is really annoying to enter all 64 characters of my WPA-PSK key into my x50v/wm5. Oh why did they disable pasting into the key field?
