I've set up my linksys wrt54g to broadcast ssid, mixed b/g access, and no encryption. My x51v is set to access via 'my work network', etc. I've used all the settings recommended on this site's guide.
The x51v detects the network id, but simply cannot connect. Signal strength is high. Actually, what happens is, right after I power on and switch the wireless access on, the wifi bar in the today screen turns green for a few seconds, and then the whole bar becomes white permanently after that.
When I access the WLAN utility after this, it goes through the cycle of connecting - failed status all the time.
When I use hitchhiker, I see this cycle: configuring - associating - renew ip - failed
I thought it was my router, so I went to a place with free wireless access today. The same thing happened. I found their network ID, but the pda kept going through the connecting-failed cycle.
The only way I can access the internet now is through the cradle passthrough on the pc's activesync.
First, I would back up your machine. Use a program such as memmaid to clean up any stray files and cache. SKTools is also good, but it is more agressive and you can easily delete something that you really need. (hence the backup).
Make sure that activesync is shut down and does not reactivate itself. (Start > Settings > system > memory > running programs.
I have not had much luck with hitchhiker and ended up having to remove it from my machine.
That usually means that the router has mac address filter on and the axim is not on the list of approved mac addresses. go on your router and turn that off. Connect with your axim. then back on the router find it as a connected device and add its mac address to the list. Turn the filter back on.
I'm having the same exact problem with an X5, I don't have any security on my router either.
As soon as I turn hitchhiker on, it shows my connection for one or two seconds under "Available Networks". That dissapears and Hitchhiker kicks my CF card offline. It then says that there is two bars of connection coming from a network called HitchHiker with 3 numbers after it, but in reality I have no internet connection at all.
After I exit Hitchhiker my CF card goes back online. I have no router security, so I don't know whats wrong. >_<
No luck. I have no security enabled at all on my router.
I've set it to accesspoint b-type, long preamble, auto (not shared key) authentication, auto transmission rate, no mac filtering, and so on and my pda connection just keeps dropping a second after connecting.
The drop occurs in both wlan and hitchiker. They drop the connection and try to connect to the next access point right after connecting.
I finally got wifi working... but not with hitchhiker or wlan.
I enabled odessey, and the connection went through immediately. My wifi apps all work now. If it was this easy, why isn't everyone using odessey?
I had success with Odyssey but find it sluggish
I use Socketcomm's WiFi Companion -
Odysey Client comes built into our ROM Image (so think of it as free - but you bought it w/ your Axim)
I splurged the extra money for WiFi Companion, use it as my conenction manager, and strength meter, etc, etc
Odyssey gets trashed around here, quite often. When I had and x50v, odyssey was built into the rom so it was free, I don't know if it comes with other models. I used it and it worked every time. It was also very easy to set up new network works and then to pick among all your networks. Very useful, if, as I do, you connect to several during the course of a day.
Once the odyssey connections were set up I could no longer successfully connect using wlan on its own.
When I got my x51v, it connected using the wlan utility all the time, except for my little hitch with hitchhiker (since removed) it did not seem to have problems finding the correct network and logging on. However, on one of my travels, I could not connect to the network. I used the built in odyssey, (which I had removed from startup, but still had on the ax) and connected to this new hotel network right away. Alas, now my wlan is a bit flakey and hiccups when I connect to my regular nets.
I suspect that odyssey changes some setting, that makes it the preferred client. I also suspect as you built up more networks on your system that you have successfully connected to, the wlan utility starts to have problems. When I get some time, I will delve into the registry or other files, to see how settings are saved.
system works fine with odyssey, but I do unload it when I'm not using it.
I was using Odyssey client without problems, but I decided to change to WLAN because it was faster.
After a couple of weeks I started having problems with WLAN, changed back to Odyssey but without success. It connects but with interruptions.
I tried to erase everything in the WLAN utility but I cannot access the "Configure Wireless Networks" page, even disconnecting Odyssey and doing a soft reset.
I would like not to do a Hard reset, any suggestion?
