I am able to connect to the internet on my home network with no encryption, but the moment I set the WEP I still recieve the signal, but my axim X5 will not grap an IP. I finally tried setting up a static IP with the router. Again it works fine with no WEP encryption, but when I put on the WEP I get no internet. It still shows a connection. What am I doing wrong?? I know I am entering the right WEP key as I am getting the signal strong and clear.

The strength of the signal has nothing to do with whether WEP is enabled or not. Most likely you are entering the key wrong both another option is to switch from Open to Shared (or vise versa).

Also, if you are using 128-bit WEP, consider changing to 64. It is just as secure and it is a lot easier to type in 10 characters correctly than it is 26.

Also, some routers turn on MAC filtering automatically with WEP. Make sure this didn't happen or (better) turn it on and enter your MAC address.

Thanks, but I am certain that I have entered the keys correctly...with the incorrect keys there is no connection so I know I have a connection. It just will not grab an IP.
