Can I have a wireless connection to internet from my island?

I'm wondering if i can connect to the internet throught a wireless modem from my Axim x5. Taking into account I'm living in an island in the golf of mexico.

Any Ideas are welcome. thanx in advance.

First you have to have internet access on your Island. I like the sound of living on an island in the golf of mexico. How do you get to the internet? Cable, Sat, cell phone, dial up?

Then you connect up a wireless modem to that internet connection. Actually you may only need a WAP (wireless access point) or a wireless switch (some still call routers) to connect to your existing internet connection.

Finally connect your axim wirelessly to the modem.

By "wireless model" are you referring to a 1x or GPRS card? or a Wireless LAN card (not a modem).

You have Internet today obviously and want to piggy back off that? How is that configured?

i connect to the internet by dial up, how is suppouse i connect from my axim x5? is theree another way ? direct to some Sat?

One way is to use Internet Connection Sharing on your PC to share the modem connection with the X5.

You would have the PC connect to the Internet and then the PC and X5 would communicate via Wifi. One card needed for the PC and one for the X5.

No, GPS is a location information system, it's not a method for delivering Internet access.

Talk to your local cellular phone carrier (if there is one) and see if they offer a Compact Flash (CF) modem. They might do.

If they don't you could look at importing one from the US, but it would require some understanding of how the cellular infrastructure there is deployed.

I use DirecWay Satellite internet service, Works great search Google for DirecWay. All you need is their dish and aim it at their Satellite, cost is 600 up front then 60 each month.
