Finding the Internet w/ WIFI????
I purchased a Spectec WiFi card for my Axim X51, and it works great in my house. It connects through my Linksys router. The question is I can't seem to connect elswhere, even in spots where I know there is a router/"hot spot". Any ideas?

Try the Wifi companion software from Dell($25) If there's a network to connect too, it will show you!

The WiFi companion software looks interesting, will it be compatable with my Spectec card? Is there other software/solutions that are free? I am not sure what you mean by "do you have a link". As I have said, I can get the internet using the WiFi card (wireless) on my Axim at home. When I do this the connection lists my Linksys router as the source. Is this what you mean by do I have a link? The problem is I would like to get the internet "on the go"/elsewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if there is any similar software that is free. I'm able check my email at local restraunts with out any problems. The software is compatable with your Spectec card. Have you checked your connection settings?

I have just checked my connection settings (I am new to all of this as I am sure you can tell), and it lists my Linksys system and states that I am "Connected". It also says "networks to access:" and says "all available". Is there a way to simply search for available connections?

That's what's cool about the software, it searches and displays all available networks to connect too!! I'm aware that your able to connect at home but your problem is connecting on the go, right? Regardless even without the software, you should still be able to connect to the internet if your in a wifi hot spot.:exc:

Why do you need any additional software other than what is on the AXIM? It should possible sites where you are and shouldnt you be able to just click on connect?

Now I have a new problem. My spectec SDIO card works fine, as does my wifi companion software - the reason I know this is because when I use it in a "hot spot" it shows me that I have access via a router or local hotel wifi access point. The problem is after this when I try to actually use the internet my Axim says it is unavailable and I get a message to change settings or dismiss. How can I actually access the internet from a wifi spot.

Normally when you make a new connection and it asks if you want to connect to 'Work' or 'The Internet,' you should select 'Work.'
In the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Set up my Proxy server. On the Proxy server tab, check the top box (This network connects to the Internet) but leave everything else on this page blank. On the General tab, the name should be "My Work Network." OK and then select the Advanced (tab), Select Networks and select "My Work Network" from both of the pull down lists.
