Hacked BT 3G UMTS speed test

hi.

hacking the axim x51v register (from 115200 to 460800 baud) can improve using a bt cellphone as a modem. try your connection speed at

http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1

my hacked 1MB results today:
271 kbit/sec
0.835s latency
31.055s d/l time

before hacking:
219 kbit/sec
0.922s latency
22.756s d/l time

axim x51v a012
nokia 6280
carrier: 3 (sweden)

(thanks to Philhellene, for the info)

Hacking BT settings for 3G UMTS or EDGE

how to:

@step 1

Perform a data backup

This tutorial involves a degree of registry editing. Errors can lead
to system failure, so before you start, back up your data! If you
haven’t done so, now is the time to create a Bluetooth bond with your
3G mobile phone so that you can use it to access the Internet with
your Pocket PC. If you have an existing connection, edit it and set
your baud rate to exactly 115200 bps. The importance of this will be
revealed later.

@step 2

Source a registry editor

In order to increase your PDA’s Bluetooth dial-up network connection
speed, you will need a registry editor.

@step 3

Navigating the registry

Start your registry editor and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm
\RasBook\“Connection”\DevCfg, where “Connection” is the name of the
connection to your 3G mobile phone.

Scroll down until you find the name of your connection

@step 4

Locate the data connection speed

Tap DevCfg and you will see rows of data. The information you are
interested in is the 3 bytes that define the connection speed. As the
baud rate was preset to 115200 bps in Step 1, this information will
be stored as 00 C2 01 . Scroll down until you see this data
sequence on your screen.

115200 bps is stored in the registry as 00 C2 01

EDIT:
256000 bps =3E800 -> 00.e8.03
384000 bps =5DC00 -> 00.dc.05
460800 bps =70800 -> 00.08.07
921600 bps =E1000 -> 00.10.0e

@step 5

Editing the registry

You need to change the value of 00 C2 01 to suit your preferences.
The speed you select should be faster than the speed of your cellular
connection. If you use a UMTS 3G mobile phone, set your speed to
460800 bps by replacing the sequence with 00 08 07. If your device
uses EDGE, then a speed of 256000 bps is appropriate, so type in 00
E8 03 .

Replace the data with a new sequence in order to increase connection
speeds

@step 6

Faster connection speeds

Select ‘Done’ to save the changes to the registry. If you have a
Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA, switch off your device and wait for about a
minute so that the new registry values can flush into persistent
memory. This is not necessary with Windows Mobile 2003 devices.
Finally, perform a soft reset. You should now enjoy faster connection
speeds.

(thanks Andy)

Hi.

This is not equal to the "WidComm Stack".

This is only one way to improve BT baud rate, between the axim and a BT cellphone used as a modem, beyond the default 115200 baud setting, so you can take real advantage of 3G/ EDGE/ UMTS etc.
