I have a Netgear wireless router but no wireless card in my computer (wired form the router to the PC). I can't seem to get my wireless Axim to connect with the PC through the router.
What router settings are you using in a case like this?

It does not matter that your PC is wired or wifi. I don't think there are any important things to option in the router as long as the Axim gets an IP address in the same subnet as the other PCs. The router has no ports opened. Ports opened are for external devices to access your internal network. It has firewall on, MAC filtering to allow only my devices to access the internet and to keep others from getting in.
DHCP is on, but the Axim is set to a static address - it's a compromise to have most things work on the PC 802.11b+ card and the MA701 802.11b. My problem now is the Axim will not recognize the PC for more than about 5 minutes. When I sync, it tries but the PC Activesync doesn't open. Axim can't ping that PC or others. If I go to Resco File Explorer and scan the network, it will find all the PCs and then when I go to sync, Activesync on the PC opens and then completes the sync. Until I can find a fix, this is my workaround. If I use Pocket Hosts to define the PC's IP address, it will always work, but I don't want to hard code a DHCP defined address.
All this seemed to have started after XP SP1 was put in.

3. Next you'll need to enable network ActiveSyncing on your Pocket PC. Start up the ActiveSync application on it. In the "Tools" menu, select "Options...". Then click on the check box next to "Include PC when synchronizing remotely and connect to:". Finally, enter the name of the PC you'll be syncing with in the text box below this line.
|
the "options" button is inaccessible.. any reason for this??

You cannot be connected with the PC when you do this. Tap the Stop icon then try.

Norbert,
That box is on the Axim's ActiveSync options, not the PC's.

If you are running WM03, I'm afraid I cannot help you. I've never seen that OS.

OK, I did a little researching and I cannot find any indication that AS is different on WM03 so I'll try this:
On the Axim, open ActiveSync;
While not connected (-tap Stop if it is not grayed out), tap Tools at the bottom left corner, then Options...;
Select the Schedule tab;
the box you want to unselect is the bottom of three "When synchronizing remotely with my PC, disconnect when complete"

Does ActiveSync on the PC start? If not, are you running any Firewall software? Can you sync with the USB? Have you tried PocketHosts to associate the PC's name with it's IP number?

yes, i have tried pocket host.
i can connect with my pc via usb cable as a guest, but not as a standard connection. when it checks for changes it just stops and says sycronizing error with the usb cable.
i am running a linksys router and have ports 990-999 and the 5678 -5679 forwarded.
no other firewall or antivirus programs are running. HEPL ME

Have you ever connected via the cable with a standard partnership? This has to be done before you can establish a wireless activesync.

i can create a standard connection via USB, BUT it won't sync. it just barely stays connected long enough to create a profile on active sync, then when it looks for changes, it says sycronizing error.

You'll probably need to take care of those problems before you'll be able to get the WiFi sync to work properly. See if this ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide is any help.
