Mobile Internet Explorer...problems

Question for those using Internet Explorer through Axim...

I am getting problems pulling up web pages off internet through axim, This would be while either connected through Verizon Quick2Net or while in USB Cradle connected through DSL connection... getting message of "the page You are Looking for Cannot be Found"

I can get to certain sites like google (can do search and get results), yahoo (can bring up main page with news and also search), and Aximsite.

What I cannot click on link results from doing a search in either google or yahoo, cannot access e-mail through yahoo. Cannot access Weather.com and a whole bunch of other web sites.

Is this because Internet Explorer can only pull up Mobile pages or Mobile Ready Pages? I use Avantgo and those pages it downloads work fine, of course they are optomized for Mobile Internet Explorer.

I had changed Registry to Change the version Pocket IE reports. Could this be the problem? Should I change my Registry Settings for Internet Explorer back to what they were?

Can I only view Mobile Web Pages and if so is there a site with a list of some of them so I know what I can access. Should I change my Registry Settings for Internet Explorer back to what they were?

Thanks for your Help in Advance. :)

I don't think it is a problem with your registry settings. I have my registy altered using RegKing (is this the one you used?), and I have no problems accessing my Yahoo Mail, or any other site I have ever tried to access. PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) can access sites other than Mobile pages. Sorry I don't know why it is doing this, but I can help you rule out registry settings, so you are getting closer to a solution through process of elimination.

I use PHM Registry Editor.

What where the settings you changed? Wonder if I need to change more settings in registry. Reason I changed the settings was to get past encryption on sites like for my bank.

Do these sound familiar?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionInternetSettingsUser Agent

Change the default value from “Mozilla/2.0” to “Mozilla/4.0”.

Change the “Version” value from “MSIE 3.02” to “MSIE 5.5”.

Change the “Platform” value from “Windows CE” to “Windows NT 5.0”.

If you are serious about browsing the web on your Axim, I would recommend either of the following...

Thunderhawk

Netfront

I think Thunderhawk does a better job rendering pages, but Netfront does give you more options. Using Pocket IE is just too much of a pain IMO for more than casual browsing....

James,
did you buy these or are you using the trials?

Find it is a little expensive to be paying for a subscription for a web browser with Thunderhawk. Why so much $$ and why monthly? does it update frequently? Does it timeout after the month is up? I understand if you don't have answers, just tell me so.

Will Look into NetFront, possibly will go with this if cannot find something else I like. which version are you using? RegularNetFront or the version with JV-Lite2.

Also how does it connect to internet? If I have my connection set for Verizon Quick2Net and open the browser will it automatically dial through the cell phone?

Thanks for your advice and help. :)

The only setting I changed was that PIE identifies itself as version 5 instead of 3. RegKing does it automatically, so I don't have to worry about enterning in any info. wrong.

Personally, I tried out Thunderhawk and didn't like it that much. It does fit pages better on the screen, but the scrolling took longer than with PIE. In the end, I didn't even end up using the free trial all the way through the 30 days. But that is just my opinion. I think most people like it better that PIE, so give it a try.

it does not seem to have that ability, but it does have some capeabilities that pocketIE does not have that makes page navigation more pleasant.

you can zoom out to get a better view of the entire site

you can scroll like the hand in adobe acrobat that grabs the page and moves it rather than using the scrll bars.

you can FORCE pages to hit the screen horizontally even if they are not formatted for that.

it is a pretty nice browser and in my opinion better than pocket IE. at the least i would say it is worth a look. still not the ultimate browser but definatley better than pocket IE.

Well I loaded the Demo and tried it with the cradle and my DSL connection. Pages looked good but I too did not like the scroller nor did I like the keyboard input(it doesn't work right for Me).

Gonna try NetFront for a while.

I personaly prefer NetFront.

While it doesnt have a landscape option, you can flip the display with the PocketTop Keyboard Driver thats available on the Aximsite download pages.
