Hi,
i'm from Germany and new to this forum, so please excuse my bad english ;).
My Problem is that i cannot connect two Axim's x51v by WiFi.
I tried the instructions of the wireless-FAQ, but it didn't work (maybe because it's for Wm2002 and 2003):

How can I directly connect two PPCs?
You can set up a Peer-to-peer (ad hoc) connection between two PPCs (based on instructions provided by JmE at AximSite).
* Windows Mobile 2003:
Go to Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Network Adapters – select your WiFi adapter’s name and set a static IP on each PPC in the same range: 192.168.aaa.xxx where aaa matches and xxx is unique (the same subnet - 255.255.255.0 should be filled in automatically). “OK” back to Connections.
* Select Network Card, Add New Setting (the profile). Make it something like PAN (this must be the same name on each PPC), Connects to: Work, and click the AdHoc box. Select Authentication (tab) and uncheck “Data encryption (WEP Enabled)”
* Make this profile on both PPCs. “OK” back to the Today screen and Soft reset.
[Note: To access the static IP settings if you have the Axim X30 with WM03SE, tap on your wifi meter in bottom right corner, goto Edit Wireless Profiles and then tap on the Network Adpater tab. You'll want to change the Dell WLAN Driver in network adpater tab.]
* Pocket PC 2002:
Go to Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Network Adapters – select your WiFi adapter’s name, tap Propterties and set a static IP on each PPC in the same range: 192.168.aaa.xxx where aaa matches and xxx is unique (the same subnet - 255.255.255.0 should be filled in automatically). “OK” back to Today screen.
* Use your WiFi CF card’s utility to enter the network name and set Peer-to-peer/Ad Hoc. Make the network name (SSID) something like PAN (this must be the same name on each PPC), disable WEP. Apply the settings, “OK” back to the Today screen and soft reset.
I created on both PPC's the same network, but they didn't connect .
I didn't know that they made programs that let you do that, but that may be because it is WM5 specific or something. I remember I once downloaded a wifi walki talki program that apparently lets you talk to any other handheld running the program as long as they are within wifi range. If you are just transferring files I would use bluetooth or infrared.
I do have a question for you. How is wifi coverage in Germany? I went to visit my relatives last summer, but chose not to take my handheld because I didn't want to buy a travel charger.
Das Dell Axim ist super turbo ober-affen geil! (hehe, don't try plugging that into babelfish!)

Green-T, I am from Canada and I can tell you that my German patients are my favorite. They are wonderful people.
Regarding Ad-hoc connection from one X51V to another, there is a much easier way and without specifying a static IP address.
I'm posting screenshots but here is how I got it set up.
Axim # 1
Open WLAN utility, turn Wifi on.
Tap on Setting button.
Under Networks to Access select only computer-to-computer
Click add new:
Network Name: Adhoc11 (or you can use anything you like)
Connects to : Work (Internet works too but I always use work)
put a check mark on the "This is a device-to-device(ad-hoc) connection check box
Go to Network Key tab: (you can do a variation but this is the simplest one)
Authentication: Open (default)
Data Encryption: WEP (default)
if the "The key is automatically provided" is checked, uncheck it
Network key: (you can use mine so you don't have to think of one) baba467227
Key Index: 1 (default)
Note: you can also use "Data Encryption: disabled" to make it easier.
Axim#2
Copy the exact settings from Axim #1 including the Network Name
Note:
1.You may need to turn wifi off and turn it on again to enable scanning.
2.It takes a little time for it to find each other so be patient.
3.If you are going to access your router again, remember to select Only access points on your Networks to access drop down box, hold and tap on your SSID and connect.
4. You need software to make an X51 to X51 ad-hoc connection to be useful. Without software you don't have any practical use with it. You cannot send files without a software.
5. With the proper software you can: share an internet connection from one device to another (eg. use bluetooth as internet source and use one device to act as a proxy to share internet connection); Transfer files from one device to another ; use these devices as walkie talkies.
@dvmed: What software do you recommend? Neighter MC nor Resco File Viewer advertise that they will send files via Wifi. Is it push (Send File) or pull (FTP)?
Hi DC,
I can't really recommend a program for file transfer because I'm not using one for cost and practical reasons. I just know that an FTP server for the PPC exists. http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=4549
For internet sharing, I use Menneisyys' HTTPSnoopProxy.
p.s. MC and Resco, correct me if i'm wrong, only has an FTP client.
