I've got an Axim X30m with wireless and bluetooth. I use Slingbox and it works awesome with a wireless connection.
When I try to use dialup networking over bluetooth with my 3G phone, the Slingbox player won't run effectively, even though I should be getting great download speeds. I'm with Cingular and I am in 3G coverage area.
I use the Internet browser and it works good, same with the traffic service on my Tom Tom Navigator software, both over bluetooth DUN.
I'm wondering if the problem is some kind of speed limit or latency issue with the bluetooth dial-up networking service. Is there any way to optimize this? I've tried different bluetooth drivers and also the tweak someone posted to increase the connection over 115000 and it doesn't seem to matter.
Any ideas?
Seems silly for me to keep the unlimited data on my cellphone for tethering if I can't get the Slingbox performance up to par.
I also use Slinbox, but never via my phone since I don't have 3G speeds. However, it sounds like BT might be the bottleneck here. Have you tried viewing directly from your phone instead?

Hi.
Have you tried this (posting #2):

Gigi,
There is no Slingbox player available for my phone (LG CU500) or I would go that route.
Last night I tried using Bluetooth DUN on a different 3G phone, and had the same issue - so I suspect the problem is with the Axim.
Could it be that using Bluetooth DUN requires more processing power than using the built-in Wireless and my Axim just doesn't have enough horsepower to get it done? Its the X30 with the 312Mhz processor and Windows Mobile 2003. I wonder if I could get my hands on one of the higher end units that would be a good test.

Any ideas out there?
When I said that BT was the bottleneck, I meant that it is too slow to transfer enough data for video. So even if you have 3G speeds on your phone, you would not be getting those speeds into your Axim because of the way you are connecting the two. However, it would be interesting to this on a different Axim model.

Hmm.. so even though I can get 200-300kbit/sec doing the mobile speed test in IE on the Axim through Bluetooth DUN - it isn't able to harness this for the Slingplayer? Seems kind of odd. The Slingplayer can play great video on a mobile device with 100k/sec. I still wonder if it might be the processor bogging down.

Hm...I see what you mean now. I wouldn't mind testing for you (even though I have only EDGE speeds right now), but I don't have an unlimited data plan and I'm afraid I will end up paying and arm and a leg!
I have a Axim50v with wm2003.. I also have a samsung blackjack. I'm trying to pair these babies up for the same purpose.... unfortunately I am not able to get these to pair up.
I turn on BT on the phone...
I turn on BT on the Axim and go the BT manager and attemp to connect via phone
the Axim finds the phone and I enter the passcode.
the Phone asks me for the code and I enter it
the Axim then says authentication is good but gives me an error saying something about Service Discovery was unsuccessful.. The requested service is not running on this device. Please make sure the service is enabled.. blah blah..
The phone of course tells me it has connected no problem.. but the axim is dead in the water..
Is there something else I need to do on either the phone or the axim? I'm really confused!! Thx for any help you can offer!!
What carrier are you with? If you are using GSM, check out the stickied threads at the top of the Wireless Communications forum for help with pairing and settings.
I pair my x50v with a Nextel i880. I just tried to connect to my Slingbox over my BT DUN and the farthest I got was the "Locating" screen. Then, I get a pop-up saying "Unable to connect to Slingbox." My guess is because the connection is too slow.
