Does anyone know or have any experience with using some of the newer wireless CF cards with "g" capability in the Axim X5 (e.g., Ambicom WGCF-54)? Some of these have greater flexibility/features such as "g and b", 54M thruput, PDA and laptop use, WPA security, etc. that may offer extended "life" and flexibility in future devices. Will these cards work? (I'm not so concerned about being able to use 54M thruput, WPA in my X5 since I assume the X5 won't support those features.)

Just check to see if they have drivers for your os.

Most new technology is backwards compatible. Ie: Wireless g cards will run on 98se, which came out in 1999, a long time b4 wireless g and even b4 b.
