effomG and others,
I hate to suggest that you buy more equipment, but I've never had any luck with a complex setup on any Netgear piece of equipment, and little luck with any D-Link equipment. I now use Linksys equipment and have never had a problem. I recently setup a Linksys 54G router (the one commonly selling for $49) at my mother's house. Was able to connect the first time with her laptop and my x50v, both running WAP-PSK.

mkss,

I can confirm that there is definitely a problem with the Netgear DG834PN and my Axim X50V with WPA-PSK encryption.

I have just plugged in my cheapy Thomson router I got free from beunlimited, and it worked perfectly straight away. Will email Netgear support to ask what the hell is going on.

If anyone wants to buy a 3 month old router - let me know ! Why the hell it worked before the A02 Rom upgrade I don't know. Something causing an incompatibility!

Will post any correspondence from Netgear, so others don't have to go through my pain.

I had this problem awhile ago. I was able to get around it by making my key shorter. Don't know if that was just dumb luck or is an actual fix.

For what it's worth, my X51v connects just fine to my Netgear WGT624v1 with firmware version 4.2.11 via WPA-PSK and a maximum-length key, though I'll be the first to admit my router is probably starting to get a bit long in the tooth.

I have a Dlink router (not sure what the model# is right now, it's a WBR I think) and I have the same problem. I even have some problems connecting with my laptop. It must be something to do with the security.

Whats the point in having security then? the reason for WEP and WPA is to stop people from using the internet connection so that you can get the fastest speed possible. I saw a program on Identity theft the showed that they could hack into a pc that was connected to an unsecure router. I have WPA-PSK and its fine. Try resseting your router with the original settings create only 1 account and try WPA then making sure that all the options are correct. D-Link routers are a bit tricky to setup and the interface is a bit buggy i would look for a firmware update. Does your Axim find the WPA-PSK enabled network or not?

I have these problems in high traffic wi-fi environments.. not sure if this applies to any of you folks. I live in a building where i can see several wifi signals (netgear, dlink, and linksys) with security enabled. My x50v connects easily to my network (linksys 802.11b router with a different ssid than any router i can detect) without any security other than a mac filter, but with wpa-psk it does not work. with wep, it is less reliable than none but does in fact connect. with the identical router in an environment where i detect 0 other wifi networks, wpa-psk works every time. i haven't found a solution yet, except that static ips work bettre than dynamic.
