Have you set your router to use both 802.11 b & g? The axim is a "b" device. Another possibility is to make sure the Dell WLAN application is not set to power save.

How did
you configure WPA-PSK TKIP on your Ax? Through the Odessey client or some other 3rd party utility? Or just using the Dell WLAN utility?

Security Incompatibility

I had an IT specialist go thru the setup and his conclusion that there is some incompatibility problem relating to encryption with my DlLink DI-784 using the setting you mentioned....
since I am only using the wireless for my laptop we changed it to WEP open
and it has worked since.

I would like to know if other people had this problem too? My IT guy suggested I get another wireless router if I wanted to use that option.

I also had an IT guy in earlier and he cud not get it working and the Dell 51v was sent back and I got a refurbished unit which acted the same way...

Now I called Dell support, they do not give support for security problems so you are on your own, when you have a security problem as, I guess they are saying its for the IT pros to work on. It was very time consuming to solve this problem and finally after about 8 months I got a real expert on routers that took some 3 hrs to figure this out. I know we used a logical trouble shooting technique as I worked with routers and in the telcom business for 35 years...

I personally think the support is lacking and we at least should be told which implimentation version is installed on the Dell wan.... so it can be compared with the router version but there seems to be an industry trend not to supply this kind of information.

The whole software flakieness and even so far the bluetooth menu is misleading and not as it is shown in the reference on this website. For example to send bluetooth, I only have on the menu to beam an item...well beaming is for infrared devices that ones lines up! but I hit it a few times, and low a behold the bluetooth came on..... all other devices have it marked turn on bluetooth as the help menu on this site says.

As you can gather I am not too impressed with the WM5

If you want to try another router, I use a Linksys WRT54G with my Axim successfully.

I have one public and one private account on the router. I can connect to the public account but not to the private.

I am experiencing the same problem.
I have AximX30 and Speedport W 700V WLAN router.
My laptop is getting connected to the router using WPA+PSK fine and AximX30 is not.
AximX30 is running WM2003SE version A06.
I have tried all above described steps and the connection still can not be established.

Looks like the problem is on the Axim's board.

I found solution to my problem.
Odyssey client works fine with WPA+PSK on my Axim30.
So obviousely the problem is in faulty Dell WLAN Utility.

I have exactly the same problem as Iroven on my x50v. It was all working fine using WPA-PSK, on my Netgear DG834PN, but all seemed to go wrong after A02 upgrade.

If i disable security, it works fine. The passkeys are correct, and my laptop links wirelessly using WPA no probs. Have tried using with/without Odyssey, and the best i get is 'Connected - disconnected - connected-disconnected on a cycle.

I would reverse the A02 update, but as this has made my x50v useable at a reasonable speed at last, I'm not willing to do that.

My router has latest firmware also. Interestingly, when i enter Settings-Authentication and select 'WPA-PSK / TKIP and enter my passkey, I notice that the 802.1x tab has a greyed-out tick against 'Use IEEE 802.1x net access control' which surely isn't right?

Any clues anyone before I go nuts?
