I have a Dell Axim 51v. The WiFi works fine, but I would rather not be limited to my wireless router at home, or public WiFi hot spots.
I'm able to get a Verizon data account so I have internet access from my laptop where ever I go. However, when I called them up to ask for the same think on my Axim, they can't do it. Apparently, Cingular (the new At&T) can't either.
Is there really nobody that can provide broadband internet connection to an Axim like they do to a laptop?
Sure they can. You just need (1) a phone capable of both bluetooth tethering and (2) a phone that VZW allows PDA/laptop EVDO access.

If your phone works on a laptop for access and is Bluetooth, it works on the Axim. I have the LG9800 and use it on both the laptop and the Axim, works flawlessly and I get a solid 500-550Kb/s speed. Some at Verizon don't understand a ppc, so they can only talk inteligently (sort of) about a laptop and USB cable. You need a Bluetooth phone with EVDO (Broadband) capability. After that it is like a laptop. I've used it for over a year. :)
mhoerr... I assume you have a wireless card for your laptop, or do you use your phone? Either way... CaptKen is your source for answers on Verizon connectivity, IMO; and he spells it out above...

Thanks for your advice, but I'm really not talking about using a phone at this point.
I just want internet access for my Dell Axim X51v, without having to rely on public hotspots.
Sounds like I need a compact flash card that will take a sim. So what sims? And what cf cards do I need?
Thanks!
Be advised that Verizon does not use SIM cards, but Cingular/AT&T does. I don't know if Verizon sells a CF card that will do what you want. I've heard that Sprint does, so you might want to see what sort of coverage they have in your area.
If you want to look for a CF card that might work with Verizon, look for a CDMA Compact Flash card.
I have been trying to find a CF broadband wireless card. Does Sprint really have this? I will do some research, but I was wondering if maybe you could point me to where they advertise this?

It seems that the Sprint Card is a little older...I wonder if they still offer it. I will do some more research and try to find this. I was also looking for an option of wireless connectivity without relying on a phone.
