Unlocking the Razr

I need to unlock my Razr. I have contacted T-Mobile and they will give me a code. They say I can get a new code once every 90 days. What is up with that? Is it only unlocked for 90 days.

I also see that there are hacks to unlock the Razr. Are the hacks a better way to go if I need my phone to stay unlocked?

What I need to be able to do: I am given several different phones by my contractor to do business in different countries. The phones are in bad shape and they do not all have bluetooth capability. It is the way they do business and I cannot dicatate to them how I want them to run their communications. What I want to do is to switch out the sims from those phones into my Razr when I am in that country. And then I want to pop my own sim back in when I am home. I need my phone to be unlocked to do this. I think it is possible. Correct me if I am wrong.

Just below the battery in the back. There is a tiny button at the top to press to release the back.

Yes, you need the phone to be unlocked for what you want to do. Complain to Singular, or buy a phone from a company that does not lock you into their service.

Although, I've never heard of a phone that is unlocked for a specific time period. Double check that the phone does in fact relock itself. I doubt it.

They have to unlock your phone, by law, if you ask them. They are allowed to charge you but once unlocked it should be permanent.

Complain!!!!!

You can get hacks or buy codes from ebay etc. Can be cheaper but often the unlock code you buy doesn't work, and if you check their terms you will often find that they don't garrantee that it will and therefore no refund. But you can be lucky.
I have unlucked a few phones over the years. But you might be better off just spending the money for an unlocked one.
I recently had the argument with O2 in Germany. UMTS router, it took a few calls but eventually I got past the idiots with a script and had the unlock code emailed same day after credit card payment went through. Cost 50 euro but a lot cheaper than a contract with them or an unlocked router, they cost over 200.
