Big Smile Dell Truemobile Bluetooth CF Card

Has anyone used this CF card for Activesyncing? I ask because I have just returned an Ambicon Bluetooth CF card after failing to get Activesync working (problems with COM port settings). I have ordered the Dell product because it says in the blurb it "has been tested with the Axim and can be used for Activesyncing seamlessly all your data".
Can anyone verify this statement please?

Activesync over WiFi really only depends on getting the network set up. From there it is just changing a few settings and Activesync is ready to go!

For a guide on how to setup your WiFi network check out Ikehiker's Guide here.

Thanks, sounds hopeful! Just want Del to deliver the goods now. A question though. All I want to do at the moment is to sync my information with Outlook 2003. On the install instructions with the Ambicon, it never mentioned about setting the Connection tab on the Axim and setting Work Settings, Work Settings, Work. Is this required just for syncing? I have to admit when I tried to sync, it took me to that tab but never gave any information on what to set it as. Perhaps that's where I went wrong? Any information helpful.
Thanks

Oh sorry. I was talking about the Wi-fi (802.11b) card. I wasn't even aware they made a Bluetooth card for the Axim. I imagine it will sync just fine though.

Ignore my reply above yours! I was editing it and adding my question while you were replying!! They do sell this CF Bluetooth card, I suppose it will work.

Well, reading other threads, including some on Dells Community Forum, some people say the Truemobile CF card works for Activesyncing and others say not! I get this thing delivered tomorrow and it looks like a case of setting it up with my fingers crossed!
Am I asking too much?
Thanks for the input.

Back again!

Hi, back again after changing some of my kit. Still looking for advice. I have changed some of my kit - I now have the Dell TrueMobile 300 and a NEWlink USB Bluetooth Dongle. On the CD for the dongle, you get two choices of install i) Win 98/ME/2000/XP and ii) Win CE which installs XTNDConnect Pocket Monitor for Windows CE. I supposed, rightly or wrongly, that I needed to install the XP version as the dongle connected to my laptop but why is the other program on there? I already have the Bluetooth Manager program that came with my TrueMobile card. Is this an alternative one to use?
This NEWlink software supports "System Discovery, OBEX, FTP, Dial up, LAN, Serial Port and Activesync". Nowhere on the installation instructions or user guide is there any mention of how to set up for Activesync. Would Activesync use one of the other profiles listed above?
I hate this.! I thought this would be easy to do but I am getting increasingly frustrated!
Any advice would be really useful.
Thanks.

dougproctor,

I suspect the WinCE version is there for people that have adapters that allow that unit to plug into a PPC device. It almost certainly is not necessary for your setup.

I tried to find something on NEWLink and had no luck, but here are the instructions for BlueTooth ActiveSyncing from the Belkin website:
===================
Q: How do I perform a sync with Active Sync for my Handheld PC?
A: First, find out what port the blue tooth adapter is installed as on your computer.

To do that click on the bluetooth icon on the toolbar in the lower right hand corner. Next click on my device, click on bluetooth serial port, properties, you will see a blue tooth serial port with a number(example com 4).

You will need to set the active sync software to this port.

Now switch to ActiveSync and open the Connection Settings dialog. Place a check in the first item which refers to a serial cable or IR connection. From the drop-down list, you should be able to select the COM port noted in the belkin bluetooth properties.
===============
Is that any help?

Thanks Ike,
I actually got this thing going after another frustrating couple of hours last night. My mistake was looking for a Activesync profile when in fact it was a Serial Port profile on COM Port 4 that controlled the whole thing. After changing everything to COM Port 4, it worked.
What doesn't help are instructions that have been translated from a Far Eastern language into what people jokingly call English!! How frustrating having to try and decide what you think someone means, when in fact, they mean something else!
Thanks for your help. Do you know anything now about USB printers!!!!!!!!!

Doug, I am struggling along the same lines as you were to get the Axim synced over bluetooth!

I have the (Dell) cf card "working" with WM 2003 - albeit with the WIDCOM driver!

I have manged to make a dialup connection via my Bluetooth enabled mobile.

What I can't figure out is how to sync with my laptop!

Can you direct me to an instruction for doing this? What I mean is, both the process of setting up the connection to the laptop and also the process of making the connection.

Frankly, I'm confused whether the laptop is supossed to be calling the PDA or vice versa! And, if the PDA is in the cradle, does the BT conection happen concurently with the USB conection?

I would really appreciate some advice!

Can you help?

Hi,
Well, unfortunately, I then installed MS Mobile 2003 and it blew the lot out of the window! The TrueMobile stopped working because there was no drivers on the upgrade, would you believe! I then followed a thread from the Dell Community Forum and installed a WIDCOMM driver (probably the same as yours)that gave some sort of functionality but still no ActiveSync. It never went again.
To be honest, I got so frustrated I sold my Axim and bought a Ipaq 1940 that has integrated Bluetooth. Still having problems with that but it's fixable.
I believe the TrueMobile drivers were supposed to be coming out the end of Aug but take that with a pinch of salt. Watch the download site and hopefully something will appear.
Sorry I can't help you, it only went with 2002. Perhaps someone else can help?
Regards

Doug, thanks for your prompt reply.

Actually, tonight I got my Axim working with the Bluetooth connection manager on my laptop - but still couldnt get Active Sync to co-operate!

After getting the connection, I then get an error message (from Active Sync on the laptop) saying "Device not recognised".

Any ideas to solve that one?

Sorry again, can't help. Can't even replicate it as I got rid of the Axim in frustration! Probably best to wait for the right driver. Whenever that is.....
Regards
Doug
