WiFI WPA problem....
Hi :)
after few days i'm able to connect to internet and ping other computers in my home lan, but i have roblem using encripted wifi. let's start from the beginning.....
my hardware is:
Router D-Link DIR-655 B/G/draft N
laptop 1: Inspiron 8200 USRobotics PCMCIA G
laptop 2: XPS Gen2 WiFi G / BT included
Desk: homemade with Logitech BT (mouse and keyb) and D-Link DWA 552 draft N
PPC: Axim x50v BT/WiFi (WM5 A02)
My axim CAN'T take automatically an IP and DNS address trough DHCP, no matter is the configuration of the router.
I never used odissey client but just Dell Wlan utility.
So i reserved an IP address for the Axim on the router, and configured Axim wlan utility giving IP, Subnet, Gateway and ISP DNS.
router in B mode, no password - Axim works well
router in mixed B/G/N mode, no password - Axim works well
router in mixed B/G/N mode, WEP 128bit - Axim works well
router in mixed B/G/N mode, WPA - Axim can't connect.....
...or better:
sometimes the little antenna continue to spin saying "connecting" for the eternity but nothing happen
sometimes if i click on the antenna it say "connected" but the WiFi signal on the bottom of the screen remain White (instead green), in that case if i try to ping the router i have only "timed out"
normally i don't care too much about wifi security but i need WPA because when i set my router to WAP it say somethink like <<WEP is not inside standard N communication, so you will not able to use it>>.
Now, i use my desk as htpc streaming video and music and i really need the 300mb speed of WiFi N, the strange thing is that router tells me that only if i use WEP and not if i choose "open" (mean no password at all).
i really don't care to leave "open" the wifi i just need speed, but seeing the message it's easily to understand that 300mb N feature doesn't work either in that mode.
I need some tips here because i'm not friendly with those standard and encription and router and axim uses different words.
Router has
- WPA Personal
- WPA Mode: WPA or WPA2 or Auto (both i think)
- GKUI: 3600 seconds
- Preshared Key: *************** (i think i have to write something here)
- WPA Enterprise
- WPA Mode: WPA or WPA2 or Auto (both i think)
- GKUI: 3600 seconds
- Radius Server Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
- Radius Server Port: xxxx
Axim has different terms like TCIKP, certificate and other things that i don't understand.
What i have to do?
i just need 300mb for my htpc, so if it works to leave open the WiFi i can do that and just apply filter for MAC Address, if doesn't works i really need to set up my lan connection on axim or install some software that helps to use WPA on it.
sorry for the long post and thx :D

now the configuration is:
Authentication: Open ( - Shared - WPA - WPA PSK)
Data Enchryption: WEP ( - disabled - tcikp)
the key is automatically provided: NOT flagged
Network Key: mykey (the same one i used in slot 1 of the router)
802.1x Certificate: Not Flagged

I'm having similar issues. I was able to connect w/ WPA when I had my Linksys WRT54GX router (Wireless G w/ MIMO). Now I've got a WRT300N router and my x50v will no longer connect. It's irksome.

I have a similar problem. My 51V works fine with WPA with my other two routers, but my new Engin/Netgear DG834GV keeps dropping off the 51V.
A get a signal and a connection for about 7 seconds, then it drops for a similar time. WiFi FooFum2 shows the signal is still active, and my laptop still works perfectly, so it has to be something marginal in the Netgear router that the Axim is sensitive to perhaps.
Turning off encription does solve the problem, but that has obvious drawbacks!
Does anyone have any suggestions????

Keep looking around on the forum. I have a Linksys router, and it's worked from day one. I recall reading here that some folks have problems with other brands of routers, especially D-link, if I recall correctly.

I have the same problem, connecting AximX51 to my DIR-655 router, mixed B/G/N mode, WPA-PSK.(also with the Odyssey Client)
No problem at all with the DI-524, WPA-PSK.

I also can't connect to my DI-624 router on my X50v, ever since updating to WM5. It never worked with the basic Windows Mobile software, but it did in Odyssey client when using WM2003 or the WM5 A01 ROM. However, with WM5 A02, the Odyssey client no longer will connect. It always waits for keys.

My connection problem is strange. I can connect fine with WEP or no encryption.
When I use WPA-PSK, I connect for a minute or two and then I am dropped. If I turn off wifi on the ipaq hx4700 and turn it back on, I can reconnect. But only for a short time.
It's beyond frustrating.

As I experiment with this, I think my problem is with the router. The Ipaq works fine at my office, but here at home, it gets dropped.
It's a TRENDnet TEW-431BRP (latest firmware). - WPA-PSK
- Key Lifetime: 99999 (was 3600) secs.
- Encryption TKIP
- Mode g and b
- Channel 10
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

mY last throw in..........
A very relevant, but older thread, at;
[wireless] WRT54G and WPA problems! - dslreports.com
there is a <possible> solution mentioned there......though its a long seven-page thread.
the solution offered is a registry edit. only attempt after a backup, but u knew that already.
best of luck.......!

Well -- I decided to replace the TrendNet router, and it problem went away. It's strange though -- the problem only effected my ipaq. Other PCs worked fine.
Thanks for all the replies.
