Im going to look so cool w/ my big mac and my axim. Ill tell the cute minimum wagers behind the counter that im a highly succesful bussiness exec, or atleast an organized college student.
I read the same thing in the globe and mail (here in toronto). apparenlty they're gonna give you a free 45min connection if you spend over 3 or 4 bucks. That's worth it. get a combo, check your mail etc. .while you eat, then leave.
also, who's gonna sit at Mickie D's for 2 hours surfing? I'd rather just get a free 1/2 hour with my meal, and have the option of getting more time when I pay for everything.

I believe I read that McDonalds has already started doing this in Manhattan. The only deal I read was getting something like 45 min with the purchase of a value meal.
There are loads of ways that they could secure it with "disposable" passwords issued by the checkout staff and whatever.. Whether they WILL or not is another story. I'd guess that they'll leave it open and just turn down the power on the transmitter to try to stop people freeloading..
I don't see them going the whole hog 802.1x and EAP-TLS route somehow...

The username/password scenario is what happened to me when I connected to a T-Mobile hotspot. Since I didn't have a login, they were nice enough to allow me access to pay for an account, then return to the login page...
