I have a Axim X5 with PPC 2002 and a Netgear MA701 card.

At work, we have a 2wire 1000w (wireless) unit. I can connect my laptop directly without making any changes to my settings, but cannot get the axim to connect at all.

I have tried to hardcode static ip to axim and tried to force it to connect to the wireless AP. But nothing seems to work. The MA701 can see the AP, but cannot pull ip from the device.

At home, I have a US Robotics AP and the MA701 connects flawlessly upon it. The US Robotics AP has no encryption set.

To my knowledge, there is no encryption on the 2wire (laptop connects w/o encryption keys). I need advice on what to do to get my Axim connected to work.

Are you refreshing the DHCP. Your Axim may be keeping the network settings from your home network.

P.S. It's interesting that before yesterday, I'd never heard of 2wire but I just responded to a message from someone else with the same router. His problem was the WEP key but if your laptop is working without one, that isn't your problem.

How do you know the Axim can see the AP? Does it confirm that it's associated with the Netgear driver? Can the Netgear ping the 2wire? What are the SSID, WEP, Channel, mode (inf/adhoc) and IP settings for both devices?

I have refreshed DHCP but still cannot locate the 2wire at work. When I do an AP scan under the MA701 software, it sees the SSID of the 2wire. So far, I can only see the SSID, I can't ping to it yet.

I have set the Axim to Infrastructure and the rest of the settings are set to default. Again, I'm at a lost at this point. I have another friend who was able to connect to aim after hardcoding an IP from the 2wire onto the Axim. He only connected once.

This is pretty weird.

First, does your network administrator/s use the mac filtering for their wireless devices? If so, you will have to provide them your mac address of the card. I had trouble connecting at work also until I changed the preamble mode to something different than what it is on by default. I think mine is set on short tx. Just try all the settings one at a time till you get it. I just kept messing till I hit the right combo.

Heh, the 2wire isn't smart enough to handle mac filtering. Those P.O.S. things bearly work sometimes. As far as I know, there's no restrictions on ports either. I'll try the different Preamble mode and see what happens..... it is currently set to Long Tx.

I have no idea what the advance setting do, but I guess trial-and-error will be the best solution to this problem.
