D-Link 660W Install Issue - A new solution

I've had the same problem with the D-Link 660W as many of you...I couldn't get the basic software installed. Spent a long time with tech support, did the hard reset, etc and nothing worked. I then tried installing it from another computer, and it worked! The computer that wouldn't do the install had Win XP and the one that worked had Win 98. Good luck...

I have 2 Win XP machines and both mine will install the 660W drivers just fine on both my Axims. So I don't see it to be an XP issue.

Clearly, different solutions have worked (or not) for different people. As I noted in my post, the standard hard reset... solution did not work for me, although installing from a different computer did. Hopefully this information will help some who haven't benefited from some of the other solutions.

I have millennium at home and had to do a hard restart to get it to work. Oh I also had to use the drivers off Dlinks web site. The ones on the disk did not work even with a hard restart.

Hmm Netgear MR814 and D-Link DCF-660W

Hello, does anyone know if the Netgear MR814 Wireless router will work with the D-Link Compact Flash Card Adapter (the DCF-660W)? I read tons of things on both but i read one article (i forgot on what site) that said that they did not work, but then again it could have been a separate issue, does anyone know if these two would work together perfectly or do you reccomend i buy both netgear or both D-link (router and adapter)? Which is best anyway???

i think that is the netgear router that doesnt understand "Power Save" comands so you wont be able to use power save without disconnecting... then again I am not sure taht is the one... i have a Linksys and Dlink talks to it no problem....

Can someone help please? I have tried just about everything including doing a rom update tonight to A03. Tried to install again after that and nothing. It doesn't show up in my activsync program install. I don't get any icons anywhere on the Axim....truly lost here...any guidance would be appreciated.

which drivers are you installing? if you get the ones off of the web site (dlink_dcf_660w.exe i think) then it should set it self up automatically... do you see the files copied over to your PPC? do you complete the wizard on your desktop even?

Hello Drunken,

I'm going to the web site and downloading the latest drivers they have on their for the card. Once the file is downloaded i double click it and it starts the install it goes thru the first couple of screens and then when the activsync program install screen pops up and it looks for programs to install the card program is not thier. So i get nothing, no drivers, no utility which is supposed to show up on the PPC so i can find the card on the unit. Nothing, nada.....I was told by someone at tech support for D Link that they do not support it and flat out told me to go the yahoo or google and search for third party drivers. I told the guy i had just spent money on thier device with thier name on it and i had called the number on thier web page for tech support and that's all he could come up with and he said yes. Told him i would return the unit then and of course they could care less..

Hello To All,

I wanted to let you know i was able to install the drivers from another XP machine. Thanks for the advice. Now i'm just wondering why i can't seem to install some programs from my laptop. This is the second one i've had problems with.

Thanks Again,
Ricky
