desktop wont' connect to net via wifi but gets wifi connection
ok i'm stumped on this. . for some reason now.. my desk top which is using a dlink wifi pci card won't get net access through my router (linksys 4 port wifi router).. It connects to the router via wifi but i cannot get it on the net no matter what I try. if i set the desktop to dhcp and try to get an ip address it said it's not allowed. if i set it to static ip addresses (i.e. assign it 192.168.1.103 for example, gateway is the router at 192.168.1.1 and dns servers are IP addresses from my isp that are listed in linksys status screen) it still won't connect. it won't ping the router at all. I don't get it becuase it's on the wifi network. as for wifi security, i'm not broadcasting ssid, using 64bit wep and mac filtering. anyone got any ideas? it was online before. .the only thing i did was reset the router recently cuz my net connection seemed slow.
also to check status of the network card
START - RUN - type COMMAND - type IPCONFIG /ALL
This will show the IP settings at the hardware level. Sometimes even though setting via windows xp aren't set. Also try a system restart if it was changed several times.
yeah i've tried ipconfig/renew.. tha'ts where i get the 'not allowed' error. i've also rebooted to make sure. i'm at work so i'll have to mess with it tonite.. but this is totally stumping me!
If you cannot ping the router, how do you know it's on the wireless network? Check that it shows that it has associated with the right AP. When you try and ping does it time out or show destination host unreachable?
Recently I had a problem with mine where it would associate but not allow one PC to send traffic, other were ok though. It had screwed up the MAC security, I actually enabled it and then disabled it and it was then ok.. Bizarre eh?

well I know it's connected cuz i've got the dlink wifi software installed and it shows that i'm connected to my wifi network, also winxp says i'm connected (i.e. if you go to network properties and check off 'display icon when connected' or whatever).. i'm confused.. wierd.. maybe i'll remove mac filtering and enable it.. maybe i'll try reinstalling drivers..
well i disabled all security (i'm broadcasting ssid, no wep, and no mac filtering).. i'ts up and running.. i'll add back security one by one to make sure it's working (in the mean time stop by and steal my signal why dont you! ;) )
