good news: let linksys wcf12 work on your laptop too!!!

I have learned a lot from this forum. I gues it is now turn to help.

I know this question has been asked many times since I searched this forum and many other forums for the same question as well. Apparently, linksys does not have the drive---they are testing now.

I have: Axim 400M, linksys WCF12 wireless card, a CF adaptor (to connect the WCF12 to my Dell inspiron 8500 laptop). I also already have a Dell True mobile 1150 card for my laptop. But it would be nice to have two cards.

Here is how:

1, download the driver from linksys.com. If you are using XP, here is link: http://www.linksys.com/download/driv...lid=101&osid=6 , or just search for WCP 11 driver version 3.

2, double click the file to extract it to a location you remember.

3, plugin in the adaptor with the WCF card. Your laptop will try to install drivers, choose self install, navigate to the location from step 2.

4, choose version 3 as your driver.

5, after installation, set the properties under: control panel>network settings> your card, etc. You need to set ssid and wep if your wireless network requre you to do so. otherwise, leave it as is and your laptop will find the signal herself.

6, You are done, enjoy.

PS: this is really a simplified version. If you cannot do it, post questions.

Excellent, so just to reiterate you use the WCF12, CF Adaptor and the WPC11 driver?

Yes, exactly.

I am really surprised that it works.

worked like a champ!

I was able to use version 4 drivers.

A note when installing the driver:
Select Install for specified location and select Don't search... That way you force the O/S to use that driver.

XP would not use the driver until I forced it.

also if you have the wrtg54 router (Linksys 802.11G Router) I had no luck getting the WCF12 to work under "B Only" mode but once I switched to "Mixed Mode" it came up real quick. This seeting is in the router.
