not getting online

There is a thread already about this same problem, but it appears the person fixed it, but not sure how.

I have a D-Link CF wirless card, D-Link access point connected to a wired router. I've had no problems at all getting online on my Axim before. I installed a wirless card on my laptop (also DLink), and had problems, so I updated the firmware of the AP, which solved the laptop problems. Since I did that, my Axim will no longer connect. When I try to open a page I just get a message, "The page you are looking for cannot be found."

The settings show a strong signal, I've double checked every setting I can think of (DCHP, preamble, encryption), nothing seems to work. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks

Mike

I believe the CF card and the AP are communicating alright. It shows an active link. I'm within about 20 feet of the AP. I have DHCP off on my AP because the wired router is already running DHCP (that was a problem with the laptop card, two DHCPs running at the same time, wouldn't connect).

Does the driver for the NIC show that it's associate with the AP?? Is your Axim running as a DHCP client? Is it getting an IP? What IP is it getting? Can your other PC ping the Axim?

Okay I figured it out. I'm just stupid. Had I paied closer attention to the DHCP set up in the router I would have seen that it was set to allow too few connections, I just told it to allow another and it works. Thanks for all the help everyone, I really appreciate it.

talking about amusing little mistakes, i once set my router to only allow the following mac addresses, and they were all blank, so nothing could connect.

I had to reset it.

Luckily that was a bug in the original firmware that my router had , which allowed you to block all mac addresses, and there had been already 1 revision when I bought it and another revision a bit later, so they fixed the bug and many others

however I never made a silly mistake again :P
