Which software firewalls work with Ax + 802.11b?

I've had my Axim for about four months now and love it, especially the fact that I can connect to my network and surf the web wirelessly. How I love to sit on the toilet and read the newspaper on my Ax.

All is sweet you may think. Well, all but the fact that I can't seem to get any firewall software to co-operate with the Ax for internet use.

I've had problems all the way, from wireless syncing to network browsing, all of which I finally tracked down to the firewall and created new rules to allow them to run.

However, I've still not managed to surf the web on the Ax with the firewall up. So this means every time I want to sit back on the sofa and look in on aximsite, I have to disable the firewall. Which is a really bad thing 'cos I run p2p programs almost constantly and keep picking up trojans and stuff.

So how EXACTLY do I set them up to allow my Ax to access the net?

The firewalls I've tried are Zone Alarm and Norton Internet Security, but I'm willing to give another one a go if it works and gives good protection.

Thanking you in advance for your help!

Cheers,

The firewall doesn't know or care what device is on the end. It just looks at protocols.

Are you trying to surf everything through your PC using ICS? How have you got everything setup?

Sounds like you are using ICS for routing to your Ax since a software firewall sound not interfere with the Ax using a gateway on a wireless router.

All you should have to do with Zone Alarm is make sure you add the IP of your Ax on the trusted list (go to firewall settings and access the zone tab then add)

I have never had a problem, I added my PPC IP into Zone Alarm and I can browse files on my desktop and sync wireless no problems

Yep, I'm using ICS. So why soen't the firewall like it?

I can already do active sync over air and browse the network.
Adding the Axim's IP to zone alarms trusted list won't work anyway. It is only for external IP's. Internal network IP's are automatically detected and assigned by zonealarm and you can't add new or modify (much) the rules.

A bit more about my setup.
I have an ad-hoc/peer 2 peer network setup. So basically the desktop pc is acting as a gateway.

Any more ideas? Someone out there must be using a similar setup.
