how do you guys connect to wifi (steps)

hi there,

i've found alot of threads on how to setup wifi so it works; & a number of threads on different software to make life better...but i feel like i'm missing something.

i've got axim x30 win mobile 2003 2nd edition, & i can connect to my wireless network ok & when i sit down & work it out; i can connect to hotspots &/or open networks...

however, it is such a pain in the a$$..am i missing something...i mean, i discovred wififofum which helps hugely in finding networks (before, my odyssey would list all these networks but not necessary open ones- sometimes hotspot names aren't as obvious)...

ok fine- so with wififofum, i can locate potential networks...now how do you guys go from there & connect...for me- i find potential networks, then i go over to odyssey, run a scan, it lists a bunch of networks, i correspond the open ones, then i have to run through the steps of setting it up (set security to open etc...), then it will connect...what a pain in the a$$. & if i find a network with a similar name as previouis- i have to go into "configure", delete that network, then scan again & go through those steps...sometimes odyssey flickers & won't stay on...what's going on....

i must be missing something...how do you go from wififofum, to connecting in a single step??? there must be a way- nothing is being configure (like passwords)..& i'm doing all this becuase, my axim doesn't connect automatically- sometimes, it pops a window asking to connect- but it doesn't distinguish secure vs open, so i need to check wififofum first...

i would like a simple way to detect a network, pick it & then connect...what program/steps do i need??

please help; i'm missing something big time..

later,

bt

other programs?

oh damn, ok i gotta try that. i kept clicking it but not "holding" it...

but you know, it would be nice to have a setting to tell it just to connect to the strongest open network detected automatically...or is there a program out there like this???

kinda hard to be clicking, holding etc with the stylus when you want to look something up fast while driving...

i don't know guys; i really must be missing something. this whole thing seems so much more difficult & complicated than it should be.

i've got wififofum 2.2.8; when i click & hold as suggested; i don't get any connect window...i still have to go through the annoying process of going to odyssey, scanning & setting up...

plus, when i filter only open networks- i can't always connect to the open ones that wififofum picks up (assuming it's too weak)...which is also annoying because why bother...is there a way to set a threshold so that it filters out weak ones that i can't connect to ???

as with the strengths- -95 is worse than -70 right? i assume, it seems like higher is worse? the whole thing is silly to me- why not just 1-100% strength of connectivity...i don't know...

i surf & drive for the exact reason that wififofum doesn't only pick up open networks that i can legitimately connect to..so- i drive around trying pick up a signal taht's connectable; then i can stop & look up whatever i need to...

anyways, i still think i'm missing something...i should be able to turn on wifi, drive around, wififofum or maybe some other program picks up signal that's open & connectable, & then it should connect- automatically all in one step...someone tell me if this is possible please...or explain why it needs to be so complicated..

thanks.
