Trouble with Linksys WRT54G

I recently purchased this router. I hardwired my desktop PC with the router and wanted to use my Axim with the WCF12 card. Initally everything worked fine for about a week. Then I started having problems with my internet connection on the PC (running Win98). If I take the router out of the loop I have no problems. I've talked with Linksys on two ocassions. They keep trying different things. On both ocassions we got the thing working but then, a day or two later, I experience the same problems.

We've tried using DHCP and static addressing. I've tried hard reset and power cycling the modem/router. I've configured the router to use 802.11b since I don't have any g stuff yet.

Next I'll try flashing the firmware.

Any suggestions on how to make this thing work?

Yep, and you just mentioned it. Check that you have the latest firmware.

Also this site:

Is a good resource. There is a lot of negativity on there too, but you might found some decent information on there.

One more thing to try. Ensure that the card on the PC is not set for auto. "hardcode" it for 100Mb/s Full Duplex.

You might also check to see if it’s a lease problem with DHCP from your ISP. When I first set up my router (different brand), I would lose the connection about once a week and have to get into the router software to do a refresh (renew). I think what finally made it more stable for me was to enter the network name my ISP had given me into the router and to clone the MAC address from the PC’s NIC.
