I almost got it working, from the ax, not connected to activesync, i went to the Tools menu, then the 'schedule' tab, and unchecked that box 'when synchronizing remotely with my PC, disconnect when complete'. I also have my laptop's machine name in the 'include pc when synchronizing remotely and connect to' option...and it actually started to sync, but never actually connected...so i just went to bed instead...i'll try again later.

Cheers!
This worked great. I was able to surf before but no active sync. After changing to work, I was able to active sync wirelessly but then, no internet untill I changed work back to internet.

Whats up with that?

I'm right were you are! I've ALMOST got it a couple of times. Even to the point where the cool connect sound plays on both the Ax and the Laptop...(and I get all excited) and then, after churning for a couple of minutes, the disconnect sound plays, and the connection fails. After that, I can't do anything with the WiFi card until I reset the whole thing and reconfigure it. I'm starting to wonder if the WiFi card was really worth it.

Just to make sure I understand you bigsmoove...

are you having good luck with the linksys wifi cards?

Were you NOT having good luck with the Dell TrueMobile card?

Thanks!

Mine is set to "Work" and I still can't do ActiveSync, though I can surf quite happily.

In ActiveSync options there is a setting "enable PC async using this connection" which then goes on to list USB and a number of serial speeds, but no ethernet. It's all a little frustrating. Plus this morning the beast decided to do a hard reset all of itself as I turned it on. Nothing lost, because it was fully backed up, but it wasted my time, and Psions never crash, so I wasn't emotionally prepared for it. Oh well...

Chris.

By the way...

Mine works PERFECTLY since I got Dell to take back the TrueMobile card and have since replaced it with an Ambicom card.

I really do blame my problems on the TrueMobile card.

Just as frustrated

I'm able to VPN successfully, surf the corp intranet and even internet surfing works fine...just can't sync wirelessly. I've tried just about every suggestion posted. Any suggestions on what I might try on the desktop?

Unfortunately, in order to connect to the internet with the setting at "work" you need a proxy server. For some reason Microsoft seems to think that everybody uses a proxy server. What they do not understand, of course, is that even if you do run a proxy server, your probably have different proxy servers at work and at home - yet there is only one setting for proxy servers.

Yet you cannot ActiveSync unless the setting is set to "work".

It's quite silly and I really wish that Microsoft would fix this. That and the silly two host computer partnership limit.

That's not true. I do not have a proxy server and I have both my PPCs (one PPC02, one WM03) set to work. They both work flawlessly for internet, syncing and email.

Not me, both at work and at home. That was with both 2002 and 2003.

In fact, I just changed my home network to "work". When I open PIE and try to browse a site, I get an error dialog:

"Cannot Connect"

"In order to connect to the Internet you will need to configure a Proxy."

We do have a proxy server at work, and when I enter the proxy settings there I can browse the internet as well.

So, how do you have yours set up so that connecting to "work" allows both browsing and e-mail? What do you have for proxy settings? Is the check box "this netwotk connects to the internet" checked?

Yes, under "Set up my proxy server" and the Proxy Settings (tab), the box for "This network connects to the internet" is checked. Nothing else on that page is filled in and under the General (tab), the Settings are "My Work Network." On the previous page under the Advanced (tab) and Select Networks button, both fields are "My Work Network."

I suspect once you put in the proxy for your actual work network, it wants to see one from your home network as well. My guess is that to use it without a proxy at home, you need to set up a new network settings without the proxy, but you'll need to manually change it when you move from work to home.
