is it possible to setup a hotmail account in WM2003's e-mail program

is it possible to setup a hotmail account in WM2003's e-mail program. when i go to set up a new account, everything is good until i get to step 5/5. it asks for an incoming server and outgoing (SMTP) server as well as a domain. i have no clue what to put here as it's a simple hotmail account (an HTTP e-mail server). outlook and outlook express don't need this information when you set up an account in them. they just need to know it's hotmail and they do everything automatically from there.

is it even possible to set up a hotmail account in WM2003 or do i just have to visit hotmail.com on my axim to check my hotmail account?

EDIT: okay, i've done some research and found a program called 'pocket hotmail'. however, it seems that it doesn't work with wm2003 yet. does anyone know of a hotmail add-in that does work with 2003?

hrm, I am using a somewhat more difficult method of using my hotmail account with the WM2003 inbox, but it works great, I say somewhat difficult because its not a simple plug-in.

There is a program called hotmail popper (google for it), that runs on your computer and basically is an POP3 server.

The way it works is in outlook, you set your server as POP3, and set your username as your full hotmail email address, and your password as your hotmail password and then incoming and outgoing servers you set to your IP address, hostname, or whichever method you use, then, when you connect, it connects to the hotmail server, gets your mail, and then serves it to you using the POP3 protocol.

The bad thing is that your computer needs to be on and needs an internet connection, and if you want to access your e-mails from any network other then your own, you need a dynamic DNS or a static IP address for your computer so your aixim can connect to it from a remote location.

If anyone knows a simple plugin for pocket outlook/inbox, I'd be pretty damn happy (that works with WM2003), because hotmail popper is not exactly a easy to use solution, but does work well once you have it set up.

And yes, its free

--If you have a router or a firewall, make sure ports 25 and 110 forwarded/unfiltered/unblocked/open/ whatever the hell you want to call it if you want to access it remotely (you can change them if you wish in hotmail popper but I got a feeling that pocket outlook will have difficulties with that)

well, i'm expecting hopefully that pocket hotmail (which is only $5) will be compatible with wm2003 soon. i'll probably just deal with it until then.

yeah, sounds good :)
I tried pocket hotmail too at first and had issues as well, tonight I'm going to do a fair bit more research on the subject, and if I find any useful programs, I'll be sure to post them

--If you want, I can let you use my hotmail popper server, its not always up, but its definetly up more then it is down

that's okay, don't worry about it.

i just can't believe that microsoft didn't stick hotmail support into wm2003's inbox program already (like they did outlook and outlook express). they own hotmail now, you'd think they'd wanna push it like they do everything else.

I always check my hotmail account from my Axim using this link.

http://login.passport.net/uilogin.srf?id=961

If you get the msn main page just click on the "already have an account?" under the View demo button.

I'm not sure if having a hotmail account also gives you a .net passport account or if they are one in the same.

Once the cookie is on your Ax you shouldn't get the main page any more. I get the mail login with my hotmail email already filled in. I just need to put in my password and I have a pretty normal hotmail looking page.

Let me know if this worked for you.

for all other pop3 you can use.

I use the webbased mobile msn mail also.

But there is a major problem for me: It doesn't support attachments.

Am I wrong?

hotmail direct

http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=9539

here is a link to download HTTP Mail that will allow hotmail directly using wifi if you have it.... it also will read html format mail.... it saves the content as an attachment and you can read it with or without the html code.. ur choice..

pocket hotmail will not work for wm 2003.. but this program does.... very nice...

Re: hotmail direct

Another dead msn mail app, unless I set something up wrong (any ideas?):

ty very much, I am considering buying it, definetly much easier to use then hotmail popper, works better too. I am very satisfied with the trial so far :D

I did look into other alternatives, and I didn't find too much, HTTP Mail right now seems to be the best plug-in, and although theres a few of them, I think hotmail popper is the best HTTP to POP3 server/converter :D
