Wifi connection Tutorial...in 10 Step by step directions

Ok here it is...this is MY experience with WiFi and SanDisk 128MB + WiFi card and how I am able to cruse on the internet.

Materials needed:

-Axim 400 (400 or 300 version will do) running WM2003, A05
-Sandisk 128MB + WiFi card
-PocketWiNc (Free Download )

Step 1.
install all drivers for wifi card for 2003 Get them here

step 2.
download and install pocketWiNc

step 3.
insert WiFi card in the top of Axim
there should be a green light that comes on, then starts to blink on and off. (this is the card showing you that it is looking for a connection. Later you will find that when you are connected, the light is on steady)

step 4.
open pocketWiNc it will look like this

step 5.
If there is an access point in the immediate area, the program makes a chime that it has found one. You will see this on the screen

step 6.
tap the connect button and you will get this screen

the top section are the active access points, the bottom are your saved connections (a sort of favorites of access points that you have connected to and have been sucessful)

step 7.
in the "preferred Network" section, tap and hold until you get a pop up menu. click on the edit and connect option

step 8.
in this window you want to check the box "enable Wep" then hit ok.

step 9.
then in the upper part, tap and hold on the active connection until you get a pop up menu. Click the "re-obtain an IP address"

step 10.
If you follow these steps, you will get the Green light GO!!! :approve:

now at the bottom is the world (opens internet explorer) and the letter for e-mail.

These are the steps that I use. Good luck

Looks good. We don't have too much documentation on WM2003 and wifi to be honest so this sort of stuff is always handy.

How about the same for setting up AS over wifi? ;)

I don't have my own access point to do that just yet but I'm workin on it.

I use it to get on at school and the local tea room. (if you have a bubble tea room near ya go check it out. They have Free web access there!)

I'm sure your aware that PocketWINC is not necessary for your tutorial to work.

As you can see in STEP# 5 of your explanation, the notification bubble is actually being generated from WM2003 and not PocketWINC.

I mention this because I know there are some users who are sensitive to loading unnecessary applications.

Ya know, come to think of it. I thought that was being generated from WM03.

I will check it out and try and create a tutorial with out using WiNc.

Thanks for the tip!

I just went on the user manual online @ dell, and on page 108 I did find how to go about setting it up. I'll check it out tonight

In Step 8, don't you need to enter the WEP code?

Don't forget Ikehiker's excellent FAQ on WiFi using the Axim.

nope, all you have to do is make sure the box is checked.

Yes, ikehiker's tips are extremely useful.

I especially found that to secure a network (home) to have the Access point only accept transmissions from the MAC address!

This is the biggest key I found for securtiy. Wep just doesn't seem to cut it alone.

Well, here is the sad news. I couldn't get it to work. the only time that WM2003 pops up with that internet connection, is when the WiNc is open.

It had no other indication that there was a connection or even an access point except if you went to the settings-> connection part.

and even then it didn't even make a sound saying that an access point is available.

With the WiNc program, you get the strength of the signal, an audible sound when an access point is available, and is EXTREMELY easy to understand.

I'll stick to what I'm doing now. I even remapped the home button so that WiNc opens when I press it. It doesn't get any easier than that! (and I'm all about the easy!)
