WEP on Axim...how make it work?

Hi,
Just have enjoyed for the past few days my Wifi setup.
Sofar I has WEP disabled.
Now I tried to enable WEP on my Axim and my Dell D600 laptop. Checked and both are enabled but I can no longer get on the internet. When I disable WEP all if running fine.

Anyone knows what I am doing wrong??

Thanks

Triple check to see if the WEP key is keyed in right.

I've just posted this a couple times now! I had to download WinC and enter the Hexidecimal WEP key with this instead of the WM03 method. It just worked. I have a WCF12 and the Linksys Beta Drivers. It appears WM03 doesn't configure you WEP Key correctly. Odd think is the status Bar on the Today Screen said I was connected.....but no internet!

Are you running in ad-hoc mode? I only ask because your post doesn't mention setting the WEP on the router. If you are using infrastructure, it's necessary to set the WEP on all equipment.

Also, this has been mentioned in a few posts again recently but just in case you missed it, entering a passphrase often does not work when enabling WEP on different manufacturer's equipment (and even sometimes with the same manufacturer). The best way is to enter the key as hexidecimal (26 characters for WEP 128).

WM2003 configures my wep key perfectly, you must have entered it wrong on WM2003 or selected the wrong wep setting

It worked!

Got the wep function working. Realy a matter of being new to it all and not knowing what to expect. Patience was needed as it takes a little while for the laptop and the axim to communicate before one can get on the web.
Thanks again for all replies
Gerard

Now I would like to know how I can sync through Wifi.

Couple of points to note which perhaps may be of help to others:
1. Once you establish comms between your Axim and whatever then be prepared to give it a little time before jumping on the web.
That was my problem, assuming that the link didn
t work whereas it was working. But I didn't know what to expect either.
2. Before you conclude the wifi link doesn't work pull out the wifi card, wait a couple of secs and re-insert. It may then work.
3. My main problem was that I didn't know there was comms. Once I opened on the laptop the statistics menu I could see what was going on with transmit and receive.
4. Every now and then the green light on my DCF660W goes and flashes. Then it goes solid. Not sure what this means. Maybe some sort of comms protocol.
5. make sure you have ICS enabled or you will never get on the web.

Remember, these are notes from a beginner, no guarantee..but now I can setup a link in less than a minute between my axim and my laptop using Wifi and that is what I call progress.

Thanks everyone,
Gerard

what i STILL dont understand is how MS could "make the WIFI PDA world easier" and didnt included a KEYPHRASE WEP generator on their WM2K3 network config... i mean really WTF?? easy to steal unprotected networks maybe...

The problem with doing this is that there are no standards for passphrase generation of WEP keys. Each manufacturer comes up with their own algorithm which is why people using routers/APs from one manufacturer and WiFi cards from a different one often cannot use the passphrase. If M$ picked one, it would soon become a target for hacking so what would be the point?
