Printing/Share Printer NON-HP over WIFI

Hello,

It's been awhile since I've seen this subject broached on here....
Has anyone found any freeware that enables us to print to a local printer that is connected to a wifi network???

Example, I have a Lexmark z-series connected to a network but the printer is not IP and is a usb shared local.... I want to print files over wifi to a locally connect printer that is on my segment....

I have a axim x5 300 mhz and a dlink dcf-660w. I have seen printpocketpc but think that 39.95 US, is a lot of money for a print app... Any others worth while and less money? I think I might pay $9.95 US...... for one that really works.....

I wish others would take HP's example and come up with something like theirs..... I tried making my printer work with a generic driver so the HP software would make it work but it doesnt.....

Thanks!

I wanted to do the same thing with my Brother laser printer. It is on a Win98 machine that I use as a print server for all the other computers on my home network. I installed HP Mobile Printing on my Axim and tried different drivers on it until I found one that works. I ended up with it set as an HP Laserjet I think. To install it without an IP address I used the network path (there's a real name for that I think...) with the format \\computername\sharedprintername, in my case
\\PRINTINGPRESS\BROTHER.

One warning: As you try different drivers, watch what the output is. If your printer gets confused, it may start to generate a lot of garbage pages and you'll want to cancel the printing.

Hope this helps

Frank

Thanks,
But none of the hp printer drivers included...seem to work.... I have a lexmark z22, it's a cheap printer, but it does a fine job for me...... I may just find a cheap hp, that it may work with......

Anybody else, have anything on sharing a printer through wifi..........?

psnojm,
Had a Lexmark t610 and couldn't get to work either. I now have an HP 2000 series scanner, printer, copier, fax combo and it works great. It even has a built in card reader. :) Got it at Costco. Seen it at Target.
