PCMCIA Sierra Aircards

I've seen a few people mention that they were going to try using PCMCIA format Sierra Aircards with their Axims via the flexible, rubberized PCMCIA-to-CF adaptors available. This is my (hopeful) plan as well. I sent a couple PM's to previous posters, but I don't think they monitor Aximsite anymore.

I couldn't find any posts stating whether or not this worked. All the Aircards state a 5 volt requirement and upwards of 850 mA draw for sending data. The CF slot only supports 3.3 volts.

Does anyone have this setup working? Can Aircards run off 3.3 volts?

I'm pretty sure no 5 volt cards will work with the Axim.

The folks who are using PCMCIA microdrives via the same adaptor find they work fine, and they are also 5 volt. That doesn't mean a telecom card would work, though, but I can hope.
It would be a very cost efficient wireless solution.
