do any of the wifi equipment suppliers make a wifi router that will transcieve with decent signal strength over a distance of 1/2-3/4 of a mile line of sight?
I want to send a signal about that far to avoid getting multiple dsl accounts

yes its easy, but may be expensive... check out p2p or line of sight wifi in a google search for more info, or look at this link

While the transceivers for campus-wide WLANs exist and are available for purchase from most providers, they are fairly costly (as jdigitL pointed out above), and they are generally designed to work with higher-end equipment (like T1 and T3 equipment).

Also, they are usually UL listed for use in business/academic environments, so you should expect resistence from your neighbors all complaining that they can't connect to their own wireless Access Points...
