is wep enabled on the access point?
if wep is enabled, you will get one way traffic (to the access point only) which is a dhcp request from the client (your ax) that doesn't get returned by the access point because the wep encryption key is not enabled on your machine. the wireless signal is there basically, but you don't have the key to open the door to the return gate. your computer doesn't have a way to decrypt the data being sent to it by the access point and vice versa.
so anyway, check for wep encryption. if it's turned on, use the key and enter it into your wireless config. if your router/ap is an acting dhcp server, it will give you an ip and you will be surfing.
it's the key. the key!
if that isn't it, let me know and we'll see what can be done.
