How to transfer data via IR?

I just got a new SonyEricson phone T616 which has IR capability. I was wondering if I can transfer contact names from my PPC to my new phone? It would make life much easier since I already have all the contacts on my PPC...

Thanks.

Not sure about that phone. Many can though. Select a contact and try and beam it to your phone and see what happens.

markprieb, I just tried it. However, it does not allow me to click on infrared. Eventhough I can see that it is available, I cannot choose it as transmission device.

Well it's not grayed out on my Dell. But it's actually 'Beam Contact' after you tap and hold on a contact. Try opening the contact and clicking tools | and beam contact.

Yes, I click on contact then tools and then choose beam contact. However, the next screen sais
"To beam select a device":
Infrared
Eventhough it is not grayed out I still cannot highlit the infrared line?

You are at the stage where the PPC is searching for a device to send to (via IR).
On most phones i've used you need to activate the IR somewhere in the options. Once activated, the PPC should detect it and start sending. You may need to acknoledge the transfer on your phone when it starts communicating

Can I beam the whole contact list at once or I have to go one contact at the time?
