Question Roadrunner/Netgear MA701 Problems

Okay, here's the deal: I just bought and installed a Netgear MR314 router and a Netgear MA701 CF card. Everything worked perfectly and without a hitch...initially.

Now, intermittently, or whenever it feels like it, my Ax acts like it can't browse the internet. So I go into Settings:Connections:Connections, and I change the "My network card connects to:" to "Internet Settings". That usually does the trick. Then a little while later, the Ax acts up again, so I go back to the same screen, and the "My network card connects to:" has changed back to "Work Settings"! Any idea why this is, and how I can lock it in to Internet settings?

I have RoadRunner internet service from Time Warner cable, and I hooked the MR314 up and the desktop computer, via ethernet, works like a champ, like nothing ever changed. So I don't think that's the problem. Of course, what do I know. :rolling:

Has anyone else ever run into this type of problem? It apparently has nothing to do with signal strength or link quality, because it does it regardless of that. Any help would be much obliged, as I'm about to start pulling my hair out. :waaa:

Okay, now I've read every thread I could find on anything remotely about this subject, and I couldn't find an answer. Does anyone have any ideas?

I know you've said that you've read every thread on this subject but, did you check out ikehiker's WiFi Guide...top of the page under Special Links

http://wifi.aximsite.com/

Wish I could help you more but I have less than newbie experience with WiFi.....the only thing I know for sure is that I have my settings at "Work Settings" and not "Internet Settings". When I tried "Internet Settings" that's when all of my problems started. I messed up things so bad that I ended up doing a Hard Reset to start with a clean slate. After updating the drivers for my router & card, set it for "work settings"; removed & reinserted the card for settings to take place, everything was fine.

Thanks, janine, and I did check the wifi guide out. It helped alot.

What really helped, though, is when I downloaded the Netgear 2.0 driver for PocketPC 2002. It includes a new feature from 1.0 that allows you to define Profiles. On making a new connection, sometimes my Ax can't get an IP from the router, or it gets some bogus IP - I just go to the Profiles tab, find my "HomeNetwork" profile, and click Activate. Finds the correct IP every time. And once it's been given the correct IP, it typically never loses it.

I still don't understand why sometimes it can't get the correct IP every time, but I guess I'm to a point where I don't care - it's pretty quick just to find the correct Profile and activate it.

Even though I didn't get many responses to this particular post, thanks to all of you, especially icehiker, who have fought these battles before me. :D
