To crack WEP it initially took roughly a couple million packets. Methods have improved, and it takes less packets these days. Do a Google search for Kismet or AirSnort for more info.

Handy:
I'm using the "old" Socket card with the new Symbol drivers for WM03, and the utillity included works fine (supposedly it's similar to the utility ncluded in the socket PPC2002). I do wish it provided more information like the SNR, etc. but it gets the job done.

I upgraded to WM2003 this week and installed the new drivers. So far, looks great! Just like the old Socket drivers, but with some additional options.

Although the Dell TrueMobile was range impaired, I reallymiss it's client software. On a side note, has anyone tried the Intel drivers on a Socket card. I read they're the same chipset.

Ok.. i got my symbol card last night. i'm running ppc2002. i installed the latest symbol drivers off their site. the app works great, however i cannot get an IP address assigned from my Linksys wifi router (BEFWSR41). It finds my network and signal strength is through the roof, but i keep getting a popup saying 'could not get ip address' or soemthing along those lines.

i did have another wifi card installed previous to this but i installed it. maybe a hard reset might be in order but this baffles me, since i was able to connect to a neighbour's linksys router in my car before i left for work today.

I had WEP turned on but i turned this off on my router (for testing). I don't have SSID broadcast but the symbol software picked up my router (wierd.. maybe it's from a profile from the old card? dunno). i'm not using mac address filtering either. any ideas?

I had a similar problem. I had messed around with my conections settings prior to getting my new Symbol card. After hours of mucking about with my settings, going over every online WiFi guide I could lay my eyes on, I blew a gasket, backed up all of the files I needed and did a hard reset. After this I just installed the Symbol beta driver, reinstalled all of my apps and files and I was on my way. And before you mention the official 2003 driver location, I'm running Windows ME and therefore CAN'T install the latest official drivers... why they can't support a greater range of OS's I'll never understand.

Mind you if this doesn't work, don't blame the hard reset on me. ;)

I gave up and simply set up my home profile to use static IP settings and it works perfectly now. the only otehr problem I had was getting activesync working. I had to install and use pockethosts and it works fine now.

wifi is the bomb. i pulled over like 6 blocks from my house, hopped on someone's wifi connection, and surfed the web for a bit.

I also have a axim X5, ppc2002 with the symbol card, the symbol card seems to work great, the signal LED is awesome. But I as well have problems with homebrew apps or applications for WIFI, I will try the socket drivers, does anyone know perhaps which one to download?
