Make that two of us. I just re-downloaded the pc 2002 driver from the link provided. Once it was downloaded, I was able to replace the .zip with a .cab. WAIT A MINUTE! I'm only guessing here, but can you see the extensions for the file names? If not, on any Windows Explorer window, Find Tools\Folder Options\View. Find the box that says 'hide extensions for known file types' and uncheck that box, then click OK.

Now copy it to the PDA; I again just use active synch. There are a variety of other ways to get it there. Continue with the rest of the instructions: 3. Copy the cab file to and install on your Dell Axim X5 (I have the 400 MHz version but it should also work on the 300 MHz)

Again, I'm not too sure if you'll see anything. I've got to believe that you would see something, but if the file wasn't getting renamed properly because the true file extension couldn't be seen, that could be the issue.

Well, well, well. I finally have the internet, however I don't have the signal meter. Is there a way to get it without doing a complete deinstall and reinstall?

Many thanks everyone.

Congratulations!
So what was the key????????????? What step finally helped???????

The beta driver is what provides the connection icon in the lower right corner to show you are connected.

Anyone else know how to get the connection icon back without having to do it all over again?

After removal and reinstalling about 6 times, your suggestion to check the extension of the cab file was the key. Apparently everytime I downloaded and thought I changed the zip to cab, the real extesion remain as zip.

Thanks for the help.

I will try a post for the PDA later today, first I have to go pay off the winners in my office pool. I am retired but still run the pool.

DO NOT USE THE 1.1 DRIVER FROM LINKSYS SITE. IT DOES NOT WORK. you can only get a 169 ip address. i spent 40 minutes on the linksys support online chat trying to get that to work and in the end they had me go back to the beta driver.

1 . Down load the pocket pc 2002 driver from here rename .zip to .cab

2. Download the 2003 Beta Driver from here

3. Copy the cab file to and install on your Dell Axim X5 (I have the 400 MHz version but it should also work on the 300 MHz)

4. Unzip and install the beta 2003 driver from your computer through activesync. you shouldn't see any activity on your Axim.

5. Undock and insert your wcf12 in the CF slot. it should recognize it immediately. if not the name is prismnds.dll

6. it should be assigned a 192.168.1.xxx ip via dhcp if you have it turned on, but you can not connect to the internet yet because it tells you you need to set up a proxy server.

7. The signal meter should appear at the bottom of the screen (red or blue) click on it and pick the "Advanced Configuration"

8. Create a profile by typing in any name in the profile line (i used home) and your ssid in the ssid line.

9. Under the connections tab in the settings panel, click wireless ethernet. you should see your network there, if it says available click and hold then choose connect.

10. Click on the network adapters tab, and make sure the your network card connects to "The Internet" not "Work"

You should be able to connect to the internet and your network now. :D
Ok, I am having some problems here.

1 . Down load the pocket pc 2002 driver - rename from zip to cab.

Done & copied the file over via active sync, unpluged the Axim, ran the cab file & it instlled.

2. Then I installed the beta driver (unzipped, zip file & ran it on my PC).

3. The Axim immediately recognized the WCF12 card.

4. I was able to connect (so the software says) to the network (it found my SSID name & I was able to put my WEP 128 key in & the Axim registers as being connected).

Pocket DHCP says my ip address is a 169 number & should be a linksys 192.168.1.XXX number on the PPC.

I did create a profile using Home & my SSID name but I dont see why I would need to do that (the default & Any SSID I would think would work, but either way I followed that instruction).

Under wireless ethernet, it sees my network card & when I click on the card, it sees my network.

"10. Click on the network adapters tab, and make sure the your network card connects to "The Internet" not "Work""

My setup only says "My ISP" or "My Work".

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rich

Okay okay...so I made an installer that basically installs PRISMNDS.DLL correctly and quickly (and works with the Linksys WCF12). You may have seen me blab about it recently in this forum. It should cure your problems, but I can't make any garuntees. I call it Perfect Prism (because it works perfectly :p) Interested in trying it? http://prism.tjtech.org. Want me to shut up about it? Just say the word, but so far it's helped others with their problems. Tell me if it works for anyone here by the way, I want to increase my list of working cards.

The installation worked just fine for me. The PPC recognized the card again. I am still having the same issues about it being associated/connected but it cant connect to the web.

Shard, I appreciate any help you can give me.

I am using 128 WEP encryption, but my Passkey seems to work just fine.

Well, I did a hard reset (still stuck with the 169.x.x.x ip address). It seems to connect to the router, or at least becomes associated with the router but it cant ever get an IP address.

My laptop works just fine wirelessly though.

I am using 128 WEP as mentioned above, so I am not sure what the problem is.

The installer from Shard seemed to work just fine.

OK, after several hard resets (testing), I determined, that everything works fine for Shards setup & also lmtuxinc's setup. My error, is that when the inital display comes up through WM2003 that asks if I want to connect to my network & asks for a WEP key, you MUST use the Windows based setup.

The encryption/wep display for the Perfect Prism program did not work correctly in my case. When using the windows setup, it works like a charm.

So, I used Perfect Prism to do the install on the CF12 card & it works perfectly. The only hiccup is that to enter your WEP key, you must do it as soon as the card is recognized & the network is detected.

Thanks for the help.
