1st i don't have a wi-fi hotspot here right now, so i can't try anything, but after i connect to a public or school hotspot and open PIE and try to go to any website, it says "the page you are looking for cannot be found". I've heard to go to http://216.239.39.99/ and see if you can get to that. Well since i can't try that now, what should i do if it does go to that google webpage, and what should i do if it doesn't.
I'm totally using public hotspots right now, so..ya
And also I'M TOTALLY NEW TO WI-FI, so please describe EVERYTHING! Thanks!
Mark
(this is urgent, becuase i need it for tomorrow, when i'm going to Washington DC)
If it DOES work then it means that you are not getting the right DNS information. So ensure that DHCP is enabled.
If it does NOT work it means:
Wrong SSID
and/or
Wrong encryption settings (ie WEP enabled when it should be disabled).
and/or
Wrong mode, should be Infrastructure.
Take a look through the FAQ if you haven't already.

1) Buy your own access point and get it working with that. Read the manual, etc. That will give you the understanding you are looking for in all the basic questions.
2) Mail me your WIFI card and I'll keep it safe for you until you are ready for WIFI :D
On you Axim go to Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, Network Adapters, and tell your network adapter to Obtain and IP Address Automatically. Or the option that reads something just like that.

Sorry I didn't respond to your PM yesterday. I was caught up in other stuff (new car buying, yea :) ) and wasn't able to spend much time online.
You should read the FAQ and How-to for the definitions. Both DHCP and SSID are discussed.
The main point to be made when you are using hotspots is that the connection must work with the defaults. If it doesn't, then you are probably not supposed to have access to the network. The best suggestion I can make (if it's not too late since you said you need the info yesterday) is that you buy and install PocketWiNc which helps detect wireless networks and has a 'connect' icon if they are available.
