Any 22mbps CF cards yet?

I can't find any 22mbps (aka 802.11g) CF cards in any store overhere... anyone know if they exist yet?

I think it's going to be the next standard and (most of the PCI/PCMCIA cards are) compatible with the "old" 802.11b 11mbps WiFi standard.

Maarten,

Just to clarify -- 802.11g (draft) is 54Mbps. 802.11a is 22Mbps... But in any event, there are no current CF cards that I'm aware of that can handle either!

Faster wireless data transfers via your network. I am looking forward to upgrading to G on my desktops and laptop, but I can't see much need with the Axim.

I just got a good deal on a Sandisk 256MB SD and a Pretec WiFi 802.11b card for €200 (that's cheap overhere!)

I like to buy stuff that will last a few years so let's hope 802.11b stays standard for a few years.

Cool. I got a good deal on the Sandisk cruzer 256SD. I have yet to get a wireless card as I really do not need one at this point.

802.11b should be a standard for a while as basic consumers really have no need for higher speeds. a/g will be more or less for companies and geeks alike. :D If g is able to push down great prices that are comparable to b, it could replace the b standard.

I'm going to move to a bigger place at the end of this year and want to shift to wireless for my other 2 PC's so 11Mbps is a little tight.

What's the nominal KB/s when transferring files from a shared network drive (when the link speed is 11mbps ofcourse)?

I reach 130KB/s to my axim

That is actually incorrect.

Here are the speeds..

802.11b (2.4GHz) 11 Mbps transmission
802.11a (5GHz) 54 Mbps transmission
802.11g (2.4GHz) 54 Mbps transmission

802.11a does not work with either spec, nor does 802.11b. 802.11g is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11b standard, so it connects with all existing 802.11b-compliant devices.

Now 22Mbps is not really a standard, its offerered by some manufactuers to increase the speed of 802.11b.

http://www.dlink.com/products/digita...1b+/dwl900ap+/

You must have the "special" 802.11b equipment on either end. No there are no CF cards that support 22 Mbps.

More can be learned here.

I've ordered a Linksys 54Mbps router/10/100 switch/accesspoint, it was just €30,- more than a 11Mbps one.

I don't think the 22mbps will be a standard every because it has many downsides: low range, not backwards compatible with 802.11a etc.

You might have a long wait before 22 or 55 speeds happen on a PDA. The bus to the CF will only support 11.

Check out d-link card. It has the best range that I have found so far.

as lon gas it supports QUAKE who cares?

the biggest issue is caning the battery. IMHO

I bought the 54mbps for use with normal PC's.. the AP will switch to a lower speed when a 11mbps client connects (the manual doesn't specify if "lower" speed is 11mbps for all clients) but when my Axim is not connected my normal PC's can use the full 54Mbps when equipped with the 54Mbps wireless nics.

I already have a Pretec 11mbps wireles CF for my axim, that one drains my battery quick enough ;)
