Newbie question: guest WiFi connection

My brother's PC has a cable modem and a wireless router. I'd like to use my Axim's wi-fi card to connect to the Internet (and, less importantly, to his PC). I have three problems:

1) I don't want to change any of his configurations

2) I don't have MiniStumbler or anything similar, and I don't think I can get it while I have access to this PC.

3) I understand very little about networking. The wi-fi card worked really well at the free hotspot in the Long Beach Airport, but here at my brother's house it just doesn't connect. I don't know what settings to use on my Axim.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

(PS: if I do get it working, remember I'd like to change it back later when I return to the airport...)

First off, find out how your brother has his network set up. What you mainly want to know is his SSID (the name of his network), whether he uses WEP (it's an encryption mechanism, if he uses it find out what's the key), and if he used MAC filtering (if he is, he will HAVE to clear your MAC address for you to use the network). There are other forms of network security features but I'd say with about 99% certainty they won't be turned on. If your brother isn't a techie type of person, just entering the SSID in the Wireless section ought to be enough for you to connect. If you have more trouble, post what network card you have, chances are it will have a utlility to detect wireless networks. If your brother isn't using any security, then just let it detect the network and try to connect.
